What an incredibly powerful evening at Emory University. We were deeply honored to meet acclaimed filmmaker Joshua Seftel and for our co-founder, Sasha, to be part of this amazing group of panelists and experts.

Watching Sasha bravely share her voice as a survivor alongside pediatric trauma doctors, emergency medicine physicians, and state advocates was a profoundly proud moment. It takes all of us, including survivors, family members, medical professionals, creators, and community members, standing together to advocate for change and protect our schools. Change does happen when we all work together.

A special thank you to Emory University and the Georgia Clinicians organization for hosting this vital space to remember, listen, and take action. Thank you to every single person who showed up to bear witness alongside the families in attendance. To our friends from across the state and across state lines, we thank you for your continued work. Shout out to State House 119 Candidate Catherine Morris for standing alongside our community to acknowledge the importance of this work.

Continue to have conversations. Continue to talk to your friends, family members, and neighbors that something more must be done to make sure that no other community goes through what ours has.

We must hope and take action to create the world our future generations deserve. Our work continues for a safer and more united Georgia.

This past weekend at Jug Tavern Park was a powerful testament to what happens when our community leans on one another.

In this second year of remembrance, every message drawn in chalk, every note written, and every candle lit honored four lives forever woven into the heart of Barrow County:

Christian Angulo: Officially commended by Governor Brian Kemp for his extraordinary heroism, selfless courage, and heart of gold, bravely closing the classroom door after being injured to protect his classmates and teachers.

Mason Schermerhorn: Officially commended by Governor Brian Kemp for his kind and loving heart, infectious smile, and joyful spirit, remembered as a protector of his family and friends whose empathy will forever live in our community’s hearts.

Cristina Irimie: Remembered for her dedicated heart, patient kindness, and passionate devotion to teaching and uplifting young minds.

Coach Richard Aspinwall: Remembered as a fierce protector, mentor, and coach who poured his heart and boundless dedication into his students and players.

We want to express our deepest gratitude to the The City of Winder for welcoming us, and to Branch Resiliency Center for hosting and bringing our community together. A special thank you to Starbucks for keeping everyone refreshed with iced coffee, Peach Pop Sweets for the wonderful cakesicles, and every local partner and neighbor who showed up with open arms. Because of your generosity, our food drive collected crates of nonperishable goods to directly support local families through the Barrow County Food Pantry.

To our students and alumni: whether you were on the field, at home, off at college, or starting a career, this community will always be your home.

You and your classmates are the ones who truly understand what happened here. Call each other. Check in on one another. Remember together, because you are never alone.

We love you, and we hope you continue to live, grow, and lead in honor of what happened here. True resilience is rising together and refusing to let heartbreak tear you down or define who you become.
