Two more of our spring ewe lambs going home today to be a breed representative at the Deanna Rose Children's Farmstead! So excited to see Navajo Churro be featured at a place that sees so many new faces excited to learn about animals. Theyāre focusing on more heritage breeds recently and itās a huge honor to have our sheep be selected for their programā go give them a follow and visit the farmstead!

The professional pig wrangler of the ranch has been serious about doing the grain herself since our purebred GOS came home!

Beautiful group of 5 ewe lambs out of our spring lambing headed to their new home in the morning!! This is our first group of ewes we bred & raised fully from putting the ram in with the mommas⦠to weaning⦠and continuing their growth⦠and now theyāre off to their next journey!
So happy with the fleece on these lambs. Minimal kemp, high luster, very open, extremely soft.
2 more go home on Tuesday, leaving 5 white fleeces available from this crop. What a sweet moment. š„¹

I am honored, excited and beyond grateful to announce the arrival of our soon-to-be registered Gloucestershire Old Spot pair, out of phenomenal imported lines. This gilt and boar are the foundation for our little side project on the ranch to continue conservation breeding from another facet.
A huge thank you to my friend and āGOS mentorā Andy over at Summerset Farms. He is so passionate about preserving this breed and making correct pigs according to true standard of the registry. The countless phone calls, endless advice and generosity has blown me away.
Known affectionately as āThe Orchard Pigā, GOS are noted to have became the first officially registered distinct pig breed in the world as of 1913, with informal roots dating back at least to the late 18th century. They are listed with a critical endangerment status through the Livestock Conservancy, meaning they have less than 200 annual registrations and a total global population of less than 2,000.
I canāt wait to see what the future looks like as we grow, learn and fall in love with this breed even more.
Darcy & Emma are already showing off those docile, laid back temperaments this breed is known for. š·

We had leftover smoked lamb shanks shredded up in the fridge⦠so we decided to play: Will it ācarnitasā?
Threw the leftovers in the oven on broil with some extra seasoning, fried up some corn tortillas and this was one of the best meals weāve had in a while. Tender, flavorful and had all the crispy tidbits. š¤¤

The growth of Phantom⦠he had my favorite birth coat of the ram lambs during lambing season and his luster is still outstanding. (Though heās in that weird grubby fleece stage of growth currently and always chooses to be filthy. š¤¦š¼āāļø)
Swipe through the photos to learn why heās referred to as Mr. Stabby lately when identifying boys at chore time. šš

Pretty impressed with Daddy of all these boys, Zephyr! He recently got all the ram lambs turned out with him in the front pasture⦠here he is peacefully eating dinner, always completely surrounded by youngins, sharing buckets and being a complete gentleman. Absolutely no aggression has been logged (though we never let our guard down with any ram). š
All the boys have been respectful when we pour feed and give us our space! Very happy with these guys!

Ewe lambs are weaned!! We will have a few available and ready to go in the next couple weeks.
Time to give those mommas a much needed break!
Iām very pleased with the growth on these little gals. A good majority of them are nearly as tall as their moms.
