I’ve been thinking a lot lately about orientation.
Not just where we are physical, but how we locate ourselves inside our own reactions, emotions and assumptions.

A piece of research on London taxi drivers got me thinking about what happens when we stop having to orient ourselves for ourselves, and how quickly we can move from feeling something to deciding what it means.

This is part of a much bigger question I’m exploring through Light Literacy™:
How do we create enough perceptual clarity to know what we are actually experiencing before reaction becomes direction?

I’d love to know what it brings up for you.

Sometimes the body responds before the mind has caught up.

A tightening in the stomach.
A pull back.
A sudden no.
A sense that something isn’t right.

That first response may matter.

But it can also carry more than one thing at once — intuition, fear, memory, old experience.

The question is not whether you should trust yourself or not.

It is whether you can stay with the feeling for a moment before you decide what it means.

That pause can make all the difference.

A strong feeling can be the start of a question, not the end of one.

We give our power away far more easily than we realise.

To experts.
To teachers.
To healers.
To people who appear more certain than we feel.

Sometimes guidance is valuable. Sometimes another person can help us see what we cannot yet see for ourselves.

But no one else should become our inner compass.

Owning our intuition does not mean assuming that every feeling, impulse or first reaction is correct.

It means learning to recognise our own signals clearly enough that we can question, discern and choose.

That takes practice.

We have to learn the difference between intuition and fear.
Between knowing and conditioning.
Between genuine resonance and simply wanting someone else to tell us what to do.

And this is where orientation matters.

When we have a stronger internal reference point, another person’s wisdom becomes information rather than instruction.

We can listen without surrendering ourselves.

We can receive guidance without handing over authority.

And perhaps most importantly, we stop placing people above or below one another.

One person is not inherently more knowing, more worthy or more powerful than another.

We may carry different experience, skills and perspectives, but the work is not to become someone else’s compass.

It is to help one another find our own.

That, for me, is where real intuition begins.

Not in certainty.

In orientation.

This is part of the work at the heart of Kaleidoscopic Light Therapy™ and Light Literacy™: not telling you what to see, feel or believe, but helping you slow the noise, notice your own signals and strengthen your internal orientation.

I am not here to become your compass.

I am interested in helping you recover your own.

Sometimes you know something has changed before anyone says a word.

A voice changes.

Someone looks away.

Your stomach tightens.

You suddenly feel uneasy.

The difficult part is working out what you are actually noticing.

Did something shift in the other person?

Did something in you respond?

Or are both happening at once?

We can be very quick to give that feeling a meaning. Sometimes the more useful thing is to stay curious for a little longer.

Not because the first response is wrong, but because it may not be the whole picture.

This is one of the areas I’m particularly interested in when I work with practitioners: becoming more aware of what we notice, what we assume, and what happens before we decide what something means.

Perception is a practice.

I also offer one-to-one online sessions for practitioners who want to explore this through their own experience.

EmbodiedAwareness

If your work involves any form of bodywork, dance, movement or simply finding yourself listening to people, supporting them, noticing what changes and helping them hold what counts through difficult moments, it can become surprisingly difficult to notice what is happening in you.

You may leave a session carrying the feeling of something you can't quite place. if you ever feel unusually flat afterwards. Find yourself thinking about one person long after the work is finished. Or simply realise that your own internal signals have become harder to read.

This isn't a supervision, session and I'm not here to tell you how to practise.
My work is all about perception.

It's time to take care of yourself first, join me. I' offer private online one-to-one sessions for therapists, healers and practitioners who need somewhere to step outside the role they normally hold and look at what they are experiencing.

If this sounds familiar to you, message me privately with the word CLARITY and I'll send you all the details.

If your work involves listening to people, supporting them, noticing what changes and helping them through difficult moments, you are still a person inside that process too.

You take things in.

Some conversations stay with you longer than expected.

Some days you leave a session knowing exactly what happened.

Other days you don’t.

And sometimes the person doing all the holding needs somewhere of their own to stop, notice and make sense of what is happening internally.

That is part of why I now keep space for one-to-one work with practitioners.

Not to teach you another method.

Not to tell you how to do your work.

Simply to give you somewhere to work with your own experience for a change.

I currently offer online one-to-one sessions for practitioners who feel they need that kind of space. Go to www.laralight.com to find out more.

Hallo my beautiful soul friends and family.

Just a quick update.

Each month, alongside my studio creations and other work, I set aside a small number of days for private, focused one-to-one sessions. I like to keep these spaces limited so that I can give each person my full attention and really work with what is present for them.

I’ve spent more than twenty years working in and around the healing space, alongside therapists, healers, body workers and practitioners. I know how much is asked of the people who spend their days listening, supporting, caring and holding space for others.

I also know that sometimes you reach a point where you don’t necessarily want another technique, another training, or another conversation about what you should be doing.

You simply need somewhere to put things down for a while.

To exhale. To find your focus again without the overwhelm. To be heard, without having to hold everything together for everyone else.

Sometimes you are running a family, a small business, supporting clients, making decisions and carrying far more than anyone around you can see. When you begin to feel drained, disorientated or overwhelmed, having a friendly, experienced person who can sit beside you without judgement can make an enormous difference.

Someone who isn’t trying to fix you, but who can help you slow things down, notice what is actually happening, and allow some clarity to emerge.

Why me, and why perceptual work?

Because I know something about this territory myself.

Over many years of working with light and kaleidoscopes, running my own businesses and helping other people build theirs, I have also experienced what it feels like to be on the receiving end of burnout, depletion and exhaustion.

And somewhere along the way I realised that the perceptual work I had been developing through Kaleidoscopic Light Therapy was not only part of what helped me find my own way back. It was also helping other people find another way through periods of confusion, overload and exhaustion, particularly when thinking harder, talking more or simply pushing through was no longer helping.

Sometimes the shift begins by seeing differently.

So if you’re looking for some relief, some clarity, or simply a chance to step out of your usual role for a while, this session may be for you.

It is a quiet 90-minute online session using colour, guided attention, sensory awareness and conversation to help you notice what your system needs, settle, and come back to yourself.

You do not need to be burnt out or at breaking point.

You may simply be feeling stretched, depleted, overloaded, or aware that you have been giving out far more than you have been receiving back.

I’ve opened a few of these spaces over the coming weeks. If this speaks to you, you’re very welcome to message me privately.

And if you’re curious but not quite sure whether the work is right for you, I’ve also opened a few short 15-minute orientation conversations so that we can simply talk first.

With love,
Lara

Why light?

Because light gives us something immediate to respond to.

A colour catches your eye.
A pattern holds your attention.
Something else makes you look away.

Most of the time, that response happens before you’ve had time to explain it.

And that is what interests me.

Instead of immediately asking, “What does this mean?”, we can begin somewhere simpler:

What did I notice?
What happened in me?

Light and colour give us a way to explore that moment while it is actually happening.

This is where much of my work began more than twenty years ago, and why I continue to work with light, colour, pattern and embodied response today.

Perception is a practice.
