Mala necklaces have 108 beads, a guru bead and a tassel; these are traditional known as Japa Mala.

So what do the beads mean?

108 beads
The main row of 108 beads are used when chanting or doing breathwork, they help you to keep track of your mantra/meditation process. When using Mala beads, each one will pass through your fingers as you chant aloud or in your mind.

Guru bead (above tassel)
This bead signifies finishing a complete practice. Once you reach this bead, you can stop chanting or go again.

Tassel
The tassel symbolizes eternity and is usually pointed towards you when you begin meditating with the Mala necklace. Alternatively, the tassel can symbolize a lotus blossom, which is a symbol of enlightenment.

How to 𝑴𝒆𝒅𝒊𝒕𝒂𝒕𝒆 with 𝑴𝒂𝒍𝒂 𝑩𝒆𝒂𝒅𝒔:

1. Find a quiet spot; sit tall and close your eyes. Take a few deep breaths to centre yourself. Set your intention.

2. If you have a mantra for your practice, use it to chant silently in your nind, or out loud.

3. Starting at the Guru bead, use your thumb to pull each smaller bead toward you as you recite your mantra.

4. Do not pass over the Guru Bead. If you want to continue the meditation, after you make a full circle; then reverse direction to begin again.
