Last year, on this heritage month, I returned to the land of my forefathers. Today is literally a year after iphehlo, a journey that took two years of construction.🚧 🏗👷‍♀️

If I am honest, this journey has not been easy. It has been filled with challenges, struggles, tears, and moments where I had to dig deeper than I ever thought I could. I had to let go. I had to kill a lot of versions of myself - material things, egos, and everything I thought I knew. I had to unlearn some of the things we were taught and make peace with things I never thought I would make peace with.

But in that surrendering, I found light. I found revelation. I found the beauty of discovering the essence of who you are.

Today, I share this part of me because for the first time, I truly don't care what anyone says or thinks about me. That "Abantu bazothini syndrome" no longer lives here. Unless you have walked this journey, you will never understand what it took to get here.

It is easy to judge when you are sitting on the other side of the road. Everyone sees the world through their own lens.

Today, I choose gratitude. For those who came before me. For the grounding. For the becoming. More than anything, for liberation. 🙏🙌 Lesedi Khanya. ✌️🕯
