An elephant walking past the deck was enough to stop Katherine Hughes mid-painting. It wouldn’t be the last time.
Katherine arrived at the Artist Residence at Narina Lodge expecting to paint the wildlife around her. A month later, she left having changed the way she looked at it. Time spent watching animals move, interact and simply exist began to matter more than capturing every detail perfectly.
What followed was a body of work less concerned with what an animal looked like, and more with what it felt like to share space with one.

The smallest guests tend to make themselves at home quickly. At Hinkwenu Villa, that means toy cars across the lounge floor, colouring with complete concentration, and an afternoon unfolding entirely at their pace.

It starts with a staircase and a bit of curiosity.
Higher up, it’s just you. No walls, no distractions, just a bed set beneath the sky and the sounds of the bush settling in for the night. Somewhere below, wildlife moves through the darkness, unseen but never far.
Each treehouse offers its own experience, shaped by the landscape around it, and the feeling of sleeping out in the wild.
It’s not your usual night in. And that’s exactly the point.
