By Christopher Miti -A 73 year old woman of Chief Tembwe's area in Chama District, Eastern Province has allegedly been murdered by her neighbour's on witchcraft suspicion.

Fryness Botha of Chindangavya village was killed on unknown date but between August 28 and 31st on allegation that she bewitched Ruth Zimba who had prolonged menstrual period and later on died.

Eastern Province Police Commanding Officer Robertson Mweemba said the misunderstanding started in May 2025 and Zimba died on 23rd August this year.

Mr Mweemba said during the course of the misunderstanding Zimba's relatives threatened to kill Botha with an axe if their relatives succumbed to the disease.

He said the victim went to drink beer on 28th August around 14:00 hours within the village but never returned.

Mr Mweemba said her body was discovered around 06:00 hours today in a nearby maize field by a team of villagers who were searching for her.

He said the body which was covered with a bed-sheet, was found with four deep cuts and that a spear or an axe is alleged to have been used.

Mr Mweemba said the body was decomposed and the relatives have been advised to bury and mark the grave for possible exhumation for postmortem.

He said two people have been detained by police to help with investigations.
