Objectives of Primary Eye Care

🟣 Bronchitis: Signs, Symptoms & Management

➟ Bronchitis means inflammation of the bronchial tubes
→ These tubes carry air in and out of the lungs.
→ When they become inflamed, they can produce extra mucus and cause cough, chest irritation, and breathing discomfort.
→ Bronchitis is commonly caused by viral infections, but smoking, pollution, allergies, or lung disease can also contribute.

🟣 Common signs and symptoms

➟ Persistent cough
→ A cough lasting days to weeks is the most common symptom.

➟ Mucus or phlegm
→ The cough may bring up clear, white, yellow, or green mucus.
→ Green or yellow mucus does not always mean antibiotics are needed.

➟ Chest discomfort
→ The chest may feel sore, tight, or irritated from repeated coughing.

➟ Wheezing
→ A whistling sound may occur while breathing, especially if the airways are narrowed.

➟ Shortness of breath
→ Some people may feel mildly breathless, especially during activity.

➟ Fatigue and mild fever
→ Low energy, tiredness, body ache, and mild fever may occur, especially with infection.

➟ Sore throat or runny nose
→ Bronchitis may start after a cold or viral infection.

➟ Rest and drink fluids
→ Rest and plenty of fluids can help recovery and loosen mucus.

➟ Use steam or a humidifier
→ Moist air may help soothe irritated airways and make mucus easier to cough out.

➟ Cough relief if advised
→ Doctor-advised cough medicine may help in selected cases.
→ Honey may help soothe cough in adults and children above 1 year.

➟ Avoid smoking and smoke exposure
→ Smoke irritates the airways and can worsen cough and breathing trouble.

➟ Use inhaler if prescribed
→ Some people with wheezing, asthma, or COPD may need an inhaler.

🟣 When to see a doctor

➟ Get checked if there are warning signs
→ High fever
→ Worsening breathlessness
→ Chest pain
→ Coughing blood
→ Blue lips or severe weakness
→ Symptoms lasting more than 3 weeks
→ Repeated bronchitis episodes
→ Existing asthma, COPD, heart disease, weak immunity

Did you know that your sleeping and resting position during pregnancy can affect blood flow to both mother and baby? 🤰🏽

As pregnancy progresses, especially after 20 weeks. Lying flat on your back for a long time may put pressure on a major blood vessel called the vena cava. This vein helps return blood from the lower body back to the heart.

When it gets compressed, some pregnant women may experience:

3️⃣ Shortness of breath
4️⃣ Low blood pressure
5️⃣ Reduced circulation to the baby

That’s why side-lying positions especially the left side are often recommended during pregnancy.

Benefits of side lying:

1️⃣ Better blood circulation for mom and baby
2️⃣ Improved oxygen and nutrient supply to the baby
3️⃣ Reduced swelling in the legs and feet
4️⃣ More comfort and better sleep

Side-lying during pregnancy isn’t just limited to sleeping and resting but also encouraged during s£xual activities.

Prolonged flat back positions in late pregnancy is best avoided ❌

A didelphys uterus is a type of anomaly of the uterus, where one has two separate uteruses.
