MUNDUBILE, MAKEBI APPEAR BEFORE SOLWEZI MAGISTRATE’S COURT
By Dante Bwalya
National Restoration Party for Unity and Prosperity—NRPUP—2026 presidential candidate Brian Mundubile and his running mate, Makebi Zulu, have appeared before the Solwezi Magistrate’s Court on charges of seditious practices.
The matter was scheduled for plea and possible commencement of trial.
However, Mr. Mundubile applied for an adjournment after his lawyers failed to appear before the court.
Magistrate Mambwe Mukonde granted the application and adjourned the matter to October 5 , 2026, when the two are expected to take plea.
Mr. Mundubile and Mr. Zulu are also among 18 people facing treason charges and are yet to appear before court on that matter.
The State has accused them of being linked to a militia group allegedly involved in activities that threatened national peace and security following the August 13, 2026 general elections.
Authorities have since arrested several suspects and seized military equipment in connection with the alleged activities.
Under Zambian law, treason is a non-bailable offence and is tried by the High Court.

YOUTH CONSORTIUM PETITIONS NATIONAL ASSEMBLY TO AMEND PRESIDENTIAL TERM ELIGIBILITY CLAUSE
By Cherish Sibote
The Zambia Youth Organisations Consortium has petitioned the National Assembly to move a Private Members’ Motion seeking to amend Article 106(3) of the Constitution.
Article 106(3) provides that a person who has twice held office as President is not eligible for election as President.
The Consortium says the people of Zambia should have the power, through the ballot, to decide who governs them.
Consortium Vice Chairperson Boas Kanyama says the ballot should be the only instrument through which citizens hire their leaders and also the instrument through which they remove them from office.

Chingola baby dies after 'akalimba' cutting procedure goes wrong
An eight-month-old baby with tongue tie, a condition commonly called 'akalimba' in bemba, has died in Chingola after undergoing a traditional procedure where the piece of skin connecting the tongue to the bottom of the mouth was cut with a razor blade.
Moses Chisulo, aged eight months and 10 days, died at Nchanga North General Hospital on Tuesday after losing a significant amount of blood following the procedure.
Copperbelt Police commanding officer Rae Hamoonga said the investigations reveal that the baby’s mother, Naomi Kashala, had on Friday taken her son to 39-year-old Alice Phiri after suspecting that he had a condition locally known as “Akalimba”.
Hamoonga said Phiri examined the baby and confirmed that he had the condition.
On Sunday around 08:00 hours, Kashala took the baby to Phiri’s residence, where the tissue beneath his tongue was cut using a razor blade.
The baby lost a significant amount of blood after the procedure and was taken to Chawama Mini Hospital for treatment.
He was later referred to Nchanga North General Hospital, where he died the following day around 16:00 hours.
Police have since opened a docket of manslaughter and arrested Phiri and Kashala to assist with investigations.
The baby’s body has been deposited at Nchanga North General Hospital Mortuary, where it is awaiting a postmortem to establish the cause of death.
Hamoonga said investigations are ongoing and police will provide further information as it becomes available.
"Members of the public are strongly urged to seek appropriate medical attention for children rather than subjecting them to potentially harmful procedures that may endanger their lives," Hamoonga said.

Cancer can dramatically alter the structure of bone. In some cases, rapidly growing tumors trigger abnormal bone production, creating dense, needle-like projections that radiate outward.
Pathologists often describe this pattern as a “sunburst” appearance because the spicules resemble rays extending from the bone surface.
One of the cancers most associated with this appearance is osteosarcoma, the most common primary bone cancer.
It usually develops in areas where bones grow quickly, especially around the knees, upper arms, and legs of teenagers and young adults.
The spikes are not the cancer itself but new bone formed as the tumor invades surrounding tissue and lifts the bone's outer covering, called the periosteum.
This aggressive growth causes the body to lay down bone in a disorganized pattern.
Not every bone cancer produces this dramatic texture, and similar appearances can occasionally occur in other diseases. Doctors rely on X-rays, CT scans, MRI scans, and biopsies to determine the exact cause.
