Today is World Malaria Day. The recent data, according to the Zimbabwe company, says that over 154,000 malaria cases and 423 deaths were reported in 2025. Save the Children International stated that there was a 300% increase in cases compared to the previous year. In the early 2026, 1,725 cases and four deaths in just one week were recorded by newszimbabwe.com.
Our high-risk areas include Mashonaland Central, Manicaland, Mashonaland West.
*Why malaria is rising in Zimbabwe?
According to WHO Regional Office for Africa malaria is rising because of heavy rains, flooding, and more mosquitoes are breeding. There's the issue of climate change, gaps in funding - mosquito control programs, and pressure from the Rural health system.
What is it that we can do? The prevention measures *personal protection* We should sleep under insecticide-treated mosquito nets, use mosquito repellents, wear long-sleeved clothing at night.
For the home and community actions, indoor residual spraying. We need to clear stagnant water around the home and do proper waste management.
Health actions include? Test early if you have fever, headache, or chills. Seek treatment immediately at clinics. Thank you.
