If you've made it through the carousel, you've just seen the side of running a business that rarely makes it onto social media.

The finished apartment is easy to share.

The months of uncertainty, cancelled bookings, endless waiting, unexpected setbacks and difficult decisions usually aren't.

2026 has tested us more than any year since we started this journey.

What began as a small damp patch in January became months of investigations, repairs, and delays that were completely outside our control. Along the way, the conflict meant Phil ended up living in the apartment instead of guests, tourism slowed, and just as we thought we could finally start putting things back together, he broke his wrist and needed surgery.

There were moments when walking away genuinely felt like the sensible option.

Instead, we chose to invest even more into a business that, at the time, wasn't giving us many reasons to.

Will it turn out to be the right decision?

We honestly don't know.

But we've realised that resilience isn't about pretending everything is fine or never facing setbacks. It's about believing that a difficult chapter doesn't have to be the end of the story.

If there's one thing this year has taught us, it's that behind every business you admire, there's probably a season you never saw.

Here's hoping this renovation marks the beginning of a much better chapter 🤞🏻

Something new is coming at Ain View Studio.

From tomorrow, our JBR studio will be temporarily closed while we begin renovation work and refresh the space.

We are using this quieter season intentionally, taking the time to invest back into the property, improve the guest experience, and make sure the studio feels even more comfortable for future stays.

Ain View Studio has always been designed as a calm and practical base in the heart of JBR, whether for short stays, longer visits, work trips, relocation periods, or simply time by the beach.

We will be sharing small updates along the way and cannot wait to welcome guests back once the refresh is complete.

✨ 🌴 This was my second time visiting and it’s such an amazing place. What stands out most is how versatile it is. Whether you’re after adventure, relaxation, or something social, it really does cater to everyone.

For the outdoorsy types, places like Sigiriya and Ella are hard to beat. Think early morning hikes, lush green landscapes, and cooler temperatures in the hills. A nice break from the heat ⛰️ 🥾

If you’re travelling as a family, I didn’t get much time to stop, but Yala National Park is a top pick for safari experiences and spotting elephants and leopards 🐘

For solo travellers and surfers, the south coast has a great vibe. Hiriketiya and Weligama are ideal for waves and laid-back beach life. If you’re looking to meet people, Elsewhere Surf Camps is a great social spot to connect with other travellers and improve those surf skills 🏄‍♂️.

(I would skip Tangalle and Unawatuna) 🫤

⛈️ One thing to keep in mind. May marks the start of the monsoon season around Yala and the south coast, so it’s worth keeping an eye on conditions. During this time, the north and east coasts often offer better weather from May through September.

Overall, Sri Lanka remains a go to. Diverse, accessible, and suitable for almost every type of traveller. Definitely one to consider for your Eid break 🌙✈️

🍂 REFLECTION AND CHANGE 🌱

The past couple of months have felt very different for us.

What is usually a gradual slowdown has, this time, felt much more sudden. Fewer bookings, more uncertainty, and a lot of time spent rethinking what comes next.

We have been having a lot of honest conversations about it. What to change, what to hold onto, and how to approach this period without making rushed decisions.

We put some of those thoughts into writing. It is a personal reflection on what we are seeing, how it is affecting us, and how we are choosing to respond.
