For nearly two decades, ArtMap has been documenting the people, places, ideas and conversations shaping the UAE’s cultural landscape. This 32nd edition continues that journey, bringing together artists, designers, cultural spaces, exhibitions and communities that make the UAE’s creative scene what it is today.
Featuring our cover artist Jasim Alnaqbi, this issue looks at the ways heritage, contemporary practice and community continue to shape our creative identity. As editor Laura, puts it, this issue arrives at a particularly charged moment for the UAE’s cultural landscape, celebrating the community, connection and creative spirit that continue to bring the arts scene together.

Our cover artist, Jasim Alnaqbi , a multidisciplinary designer brings heritage, typography and contemporary Emirati identity into thoughtful conversation.
As the founder of Taqseem Studio, Alnaqbi explores Arabic typography, cultural heritage, branding and contemporary design, drawing inspiration from the visual language of his surroundings.
For ArtMap 32, he transforms his love for typography into a cover that feels distinctly of this place and time, while remaining deeply rooted in the heritage that shapes his work.

What if colour could say how you feel? 🎨

This season of Art of Making Art: Monochrome is all about looking at colour a little differently.

Over 6 weeks, students will explore colour theory, experiment with tints, tones and shades, and discover how colour can communicate mood, emotion and ideas.

From choosing a colour to represent an emotion to creating a final collection of six artworks, every week builds towards something personal and expressive.

What can happen when young artists are given the freedom to experiment with something new? ✨

This September and October, our Young Artists Programme invites curious makers aged 7-11 to explore the endless possibilities of materials, techniques, and craft.

Across six weeks, participants will work with yarn and rope, clay, metal, fabric, cardboard, wire, and more; discovering the unique qualities of each material before transforming their ideas into imaginative finished artworks.

From woven lamps and crafted mirrors to fabric mosaics, architectural creations, and expressive sculpture puppets, every session is an opportunity to learn, experiment, and create something entirely their own.

All projects are beginner friendly, and no two weeks are the same.
