My new favourite vocal/speech rig: GX822 + its stock stereo mic — lo-fi as hell, terrible whistling syllables but overall so cool! I think mostly because of the player's pre-amp and heavy compression. Then the tape adds something too, but it sounds good already even if I record the monitoring signal right away.

It was my present to myself for the last NY, and though the player's transport is not as ideally serviced as it was advertised so I can't really listen to cassettes without noticing terrible wow/flutter, this mic combo sound is what I was looking for and tried to replicate with software and various 'proper' mics for years!
