Every Tuesday from 8 pm to 10 pm in the garden of the Secession.
The bar opens at 6 pm. In case of rain, the events will take place indoors. Each evening is introduced with an artist talk.

Casual moments and subtle perceptions often get lost in everyday life amid conversations. Distraction has become the norm, a condition that art can interrupt. Over the course of nine evenings, Tuesday@Secession will present one new member of the Secession along with guest artists each night. Through their works, they become part of the backdrop of conversations and passing traffic in the Secession garden. Featuring performances, temporary installations, and actions, each evening focuses attention –amid distraction – on something that may previously have gone unnoticed or remained unknown.

Onyeka Igwe
No Archive Can Restore this Chorus of (Diasporic) Shame

Onyeka Igwe’s practice excavates the unstable ground of the colonial archive, approaching it not as a fixed repository of knowledge but as a site of friction, opacity, and unresolved violence. Her films and installations confront the archive by attending to what is missing, suppressed, or rendered inaudible. Igwe reactivates materials often treated as inert – celluloid reels, visual records of past bureaucracies, abandoned and forgotten spaces. What emerges is not a reconstruction of history but an attunement to its dissonances: a historiography felt through the body, where colonial violence, far from being in the past, persists as a condition of the present.

Katherine Hubbard
The Great Room

The Great Room marks a significant shift in Hubbard’s practice, as her identities as artist and daughter become fundamentally entangled. Having largely avoided photographing people in her work, she turns here towards the most personal of subjects. Yet her longstanding critical engagement with representation and the power structures embedded in photography remains dispositive. In many of the images, Hubbard includes herself – often with tripod and camera – insisting on the presence of the apparatus and her own positionality. This gesture resists the fiction of an invisible observer. It renders transparent the act of image-making, but also reads as an ethical act: a refusal to leave her mother alone within the frame.

The exhibition has been developed in partnership with , London where a further chapter will be presented from 7 October 2026 to 10 January 2027. Through this collaboration, the partners have co-commissioned new works by the artist.

Thank you to everyone who joined us to celebrate the opening of Katherine Hubbard and Onyeka Igwe.

The Secession is expanding its educational and mediation programme with a tactile model of the iconic exhibition building. The bronze cast model at a scale of 1:50 is located in public space between the Marc Anton Monument and the lift to the underground station at Friedrichstraße 12, 1010 Vienna, and is freely accessible at all times.

With the tactile model, the Secession takes another important step towards making access to art and architecture more inclusive. Designed by Joseph Maria Olbrich, the Secession building is regarded as a key work of Viennese Art Nouveau and one of the most recognisable landmarks in Vienna’s cityscape. Characteristic features such as the clear geometry of the building, its ornamental decoration, and the striking dome can now, for the first time, be experienced through touch.
