Vietnam Airlines Flight VN34, operating from Munich to Hanoi aboard a Boeing 787-9, experienced an unusual departure that quickly became the subject of attention among aviation observers.
The aircraft performed an exceptionally long takeoff roll on Munich Airport’s 4,000-metre runway, rotating very late before becoming airborne. Following the departure, the crew climbed to approximately 9,000 feet and entered a holding pattern while preparing for a return to Munich.
After remaining airborne for nearly two hours, the Boeing 787 returned safely to Munich Airport. During the landing, the aircraft experienced significant heat around the landing gear and brakes, and emergency crews responded as a precaution.
Vietnam Airlines confirmed that the aircraft returned to Munich because of a technical issue. The exact circumstances surrounding the event remain under investigation.
This video presents the reported sequence of events and explains why the crew’s decision to return to Munich was an important part of maintaining flight safety.
No injuries were reported.
