Peak into a Vienna apartment we designed last year. We often hear of living space being turned into offices, in this case it was the other way around. The classic hiring bone parquet and wall paneling is complemented by modern interior. Large windows let in natural light to create a cozy atmosphere also in the darker months we included several light sources that create indirect light and an interesting play of shadows and high lights.

An office turned into living space. Located in the busy first district of Vienna the interior of this apartment was designed to evoke tranquility. Classic charm and high ceilings are complemented nicely by high quality textures and subdued colours.

What was once an empty entrance hall is now transformed into a cozy restaurant with a classic bar acting as the center piece of the room.

This past year we had the pleasure of giving an historic palais a second life. We got to reimagine this traditional hotel in Vienna and let it shine in new and contemporary glamour with a nod to its history by adding classic details and preserving parts of the past.

The Passenger - the name of this hotel served as one of the guiding principles for the design.

With this project we took on the exciting challenge of creating a place of comfort and relaxation in the heart of a ‚non-place‘ - an environment defined by transience and in-betweenness.

We played with this concept: a place between worlds. Nestled between a motorway and a shopping mall, surrounded by car parks and railway tracks, yet just a stone’s throw from Salzburg’s vibrant and historic city centre.

Design is about more than creating beautiful spaces - it is about telling a story. And one of the most powerful storytelling tools in interior design is light.

At The Passenger Hotel, we have carefully curated lighting elements that sculpt the space, create movement and bring energy to every corner. By deliberately layering light and shadow, we have created an atmosphere that is not only visually striking, but also comfortable and inviting.

Shadow is as important as light - adding depth, contrast and drama, guiding the eye and enhancing the experience. Every fixture, reflection and gradient of light has been meticulously planned to ensure both beauty and functionality in every room.

Here’s a glimpse inside and the thoughtfulness behind its lighting design - where architecture, ambience and artistry converge.

Take a look inside Hotel Andaz am Belvedere. The distinctly Viennese design was inspired by a fictional biography of an eccentric monarch who never lived there, but who nonetheless captured our imagination for this hotel's interior. Playful, whimsical and elegant all at once, let us know what you think in the comments below.

A cosmopolitain design. One of Vienna’s most famous schools of thought, when it comes to architecture is the vienna secession, the Austrian version on art nouveau. The best known member of this artistic movement was Otto Wagner who's architecture and design was instrumental in shaping Vienna. With prominent apartment buildings, mansions, museums and subway stations.

The secession style emphasised contemporary art and was influenced by different styles of regions around the world. Next to the Ancient design one of the biggest influence is Japanese art.

A prominent feature in the design of this room is the Paravent. This partition itself is worth paying attention to. In German Paravents are also called "spanische Wand" ("Spanish wall") this is probably because it was prominent in Europe in 16th Century in Spain and Portugal. The design of this kind of screen however is much older, Paravents were invented in China about 2000 years ago and was soon further developed in Japan. Even though it is an old idea it has not gone out of style and is actually having a revival. For the design in the first picture we chose a screen pattern that reminds of Japanese koi fish.

The hanging lamps beside the bed are inspired by similar lamps strongly associated with Otto Wagner.
All these different elements remind us of the past and other designers but are not quite the same and are matched with contemporary elements to create a timeless flair of elegance, playfulness and boldness.
