The OPEC Secretariat welcomed a multidisciplinary delegation of students and PhD candidates from the University of Debrecen, Hungary.

During the session, participants learned about OPEC’s rich history, the structure of the Secretariat, and its deep roots in Vienna — a leading global center for multilateralism.

The visit, which was part of a two-week tour around leading international organizations in Europe, also highlighted ongoing multilateral cooperation led by OPEC, its Member Countries, and participating nations of the OPEC and non-OPEC Declaration of Cooperation,
reflecting on nearly a decade of achievements in securing sustainable market stability.

The primary sources of long-term oil demand growth are India, Other Asia, the Middle East, Africa and Latin America. Demand in these regions is set to increase by 25.2 mb/d between 2025 and 2050, with India alone adding 8.1 mb/d. Oil demand in Other Asia, the Middle East and Africa is set to increase by 5.3 mb/d, 4.7 mb/d and 4.3 mb/d, respectively. Oil demand in Latin America is projected to increase by 2.8 mb/d and China by 1.1 mb/d over the same period.

An OPEC delegation headed by Dr Ayed Al-Qahtani, Director, Research Division, held a technical meeting today with the Economics and Technology Research Institute (ETRI) at the headquarters of the CNPC ETRI in Beijing, China.

Both sides exchanged views on current market conditions, future outlooks and explored the scope for further cooperation between and ETRI.

Dr. Al Qahtani was accompanied by Dr. Abderrezak Benyoucef, Head Energy Studies Department at OPEC.

The 8th High-level Meeting of the OPEC-China Energy Dialogue took place today, in Beijing, China.

The Meeting was co-chaired by HE Haitham Al Ghais, Secretary General of OPEC, and HE Wang Hongzhi, Administrator of National Energy Administration (NEA) of the People’s Republic of China.

HE Al Ghais commended the dialogue between OPEC and China which stretches back more than two decades and said that “Twenty years on, those seeds have grown into an enduring and pragmatic framework for cooperation on energy issues of common interest, particularly security of supply and demand, and market stability”.

The Meeting focused on key issues related to energy security and market outlooks, highlighting the importance of ensuring adequate investments in all energies and recognized the important role of China in global economic growth and energy demand.

The 7th High-level Meeting of the OPEC-India Energy Dialogue took place today, 22 September 2026, in New Delhi, India.

The Meeting was co-chaired by HE Haitham Al Ghais, Secretary General of OPEC, and HE Hardeep Singh Puri, Honourable Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas of the Republic of India.

HE Al Ghais stated that “Dialogue with India is a priority for OPEC because we recognize India’s importance within the current global energy landscape and the fact that this importance will only increase in the decades ahead.” HE Al Ghais highlighted the importance of India as the largest single contributor to growth in both global energy and oil demand from 2025 to 2050, according to ’s World Oil Outlook.

The Meeting focused on key issues related to oil and energy markets and provided the opportunity for both parties to discuss the short-, medium- and long-term outlooks for the industry and recognize the important role of India in global economic growth and energy demand.

From moving people and goods to powering technology, mining, and manufacturing, oil has shaped the modern world and continues to drive global mobility.

Future oil demand growth in road transportation comes on the back of a large expansion in the global vehicle fleet, particularly in developing countries. The global vehicle fleet is expected to increase from 1.7 billion in 2025 to nearly three billion in 2050, with the fastest growth expected in the segment of electric vehicles (EVs). Nevertheless, internal combustion engine based vehicles are set to continue to dominate the global fleet. They are expected to account for around 73% of the total in 2050.
