Long weekend vibes in SA. Love my tabi socks. They don't twist inside my shoes! Long ones worn with boots and jeans today. Pop in to the shop again from Wednesday to see what sizes and designs are currently in. There are a few on the website too.

First, choose the side with holes that fit your pencil. Then, turn your pencil in the right-hand hole, shaving the outer wood. Move to the left and the blade sharpens the lead. The idea, from renowned pencil maker Kitaboshi, is that the two separate steps reduce pressure and minimise lead breakage. Definitely worthwhile if you've got fancy pencils!

This struck me as particularly Japanese: each part to do a particular job perfectly. When I visited pottery kilns in Seto, each person had a single job in the creative process. Rather than viewing this as a repetitive factory-style grind, each person is a proud master of that element with skill built over years. Even if your part is small, do it to the best of your ability to create a better whole.

The sharpener even comes with replaceable steel blades to extend its lifespan. Not sure where that fits in my comparison.

Get it in the shop and on the website.

Two things if you're heading to minski++ by car: Melbourne St is now a 40km/h zone, and there's a nifty new sign on the corner of Melbourne St and Dunn St telling you how many free car parks are available behind the shop 🚙

What could you do with these vintage Japanese obijime? They're braided silk cords originally worn over obi with kimono but I might use some as bag straps. They're here for your creative adventures!

Some how, some why, these matte turquoise-glaze dishes and mugs are deeply satisfying.

One of the apples broke in transit from Japan so I get to glue it and keep it for myself. Sad but happy. The rest are here at the shop waiting for you.
