Helping and supporting aren’t always the same thing.

Someone might take over because it’s quicker.
Finish a task because it looks difficult.
Make a decision because they think they know what’s best.

Usually, it comes from a good place.

But what if we asked first?

“Would you like a hand?”

And then respected the answer — even when the answer is “No, I’ve got it.”

Sometimes good support means helping.

Sometimes it means waiting.

Sometimes it means giving someone the time to work it out their own way.

And sometimes it means doing absolutely nothing until you’re asked.

Because support shouldn’t begin with an assumption about what someone can or can’t do.

Ask first. Then listen. 💜

Ask the question, and you’ll often discover what brings someone joy.

For Kane, it’s cricket.

Not because it’s about winning or losing, but because it’s something he genuinely enjoys. The sound of the bat, the excitement of the game, and the chance to do what he loves.

Hobbies aren’t just ways to pass the time, they’re part of who we are. They help us connect with others, build confidence, and create moments worth looking forward to.

Everyone deserves the opportunity to spend time doing the things that make them smile.

People often think choice is about saying “yes.”

The plan for the day was simple: head to the basketball court.

When we arrived, basketball wasn’t what he wanted.

So nothing was forced.

There was time to walk. Time to talk. Time to simply be.

And when he was ready, he picked up the ball and joined in on his own terms.

That’s the difference.

Choice isn’t just deciding what to do.

It’s deciding when, how, and whether today feels like the right day at all.

Sometimes the most meaningful support isn’t leading the day.

It’s making space for the person to lead it.
