We’re excited to celebrate The Koonibba Rocket, a beautiful new children’s book created by the children of the Koonibba Youth Hub through The Indigenous Literacy Foundation's Community Publishing Project. The story follows a colourful rocket at the Koonibba Test Range, where hungry animals gather as the countdown to launch begins.

Written in English and Wirangu, the book showcases the creativity, imagination and cultural storytelling of the Koonibba community, while helping preserve and share local language and stories.

The Libraries Board of South Australia was thrilled to support this inspiring project which highlights the power of community-led storytelling and gives young people the opportunity to see their ideas, language and culture brought to life in a published book.

Keep an eye out for The Koonibba Rocket coming soon to your local library or purchase your own copy and discover this uniquely South Australian story for yourself.

Throwback Thursday ....

“Be their reading legend – 10 minutes a day makes a difference” 🤩

Back in 2012 we delivered a ‘Dads Read’ campaign targeting fathers to deliver the message that reading to their children in early childhood is essential for child development in language, literacy and school readiness.

Whilst the campaign is no longer running, the key messages still remain relevant! We were thrilled that local SA author Phil Cummings was one of our Dads Read Ambassadors, along with Mark Soderstrom.

Watch the clip below where Phil demonstrates how to share great stories and read with your children …. come on dads you can do it!
