When co-founders of design and construction company Aube Projects Amanda and Kurt Strazdins first set foot on this vacant Stokes Bay property they knew it was the perfect location for their dream holiday home.

“The combination of the views, the surroundings and the pasture and the feel of it was amazing,” Kurt says.

Creating a home that is durable and generational was at the forefront of the design both in the layout and the construction of the home. The home is built to last with a solid brick veneer and double-glazed windows and stone floors throughout.

Kurt says they wanted to create a home that would cater to large groups and extended family – the open living, dining and kitchen flows onto the alfresco which features a pizza oven and another fireplace.

Amanda and Kurt say they will both miss the memories they have created and the ability to switch off.

When Andrew and Zina Petherbridge began dreaming of a beach house, there was one idea at the centre of it all – a ‘forever family hub’ by the sea.

From the get-go, the design approach for this property was grounded in the history and heritage of the area. Andrew and Zina wanted to pay homage to the original fibro shacks that once lined the streets of Port Willunga and Aldinga during the boom of the 1950s and ’60s.

Resulting in a home with a tasteful nod to the past, while boasting the best of modern-day living.

When Bec Gosling first laid eyes on her Crafers home, she couldn’t see herself living there. But when the 1940s art deco home remained on the market and Bec and husband Chris returned for an inspection, she knew it was the one.

With experience renovating a character home, Bec says it wasn’t difficult to marry the old and the new when planning the expansive extension.

The home’s original art deco façade, which is still intact, features curves which she has carried through to the extension in the kitchen island, the steel framed wine cabinet and the feature wall that transitions from the kitchen, living and dining, around the corner into the hallway.

“One of the biggest considerations was definitely the connection to nature and the views of the outdoors,” she says.
“We wanted to feel amongst the trees and nature and have views from every angle out to green.”

Now that their oldest daughter has started school Bec and Chris are looking to move closer to family and the school community in the city.
