We transformed the State Library’s Treasures Wall into a colourful bookworm-making station, ready for hundreds of little readers and creators!

These free family workshops were part of the celebrations for the upcoming opening of the State Library’s Little Library this August 22 & 23, and formed part of Firstival ✨a festival celebrating first experiences and trying something new.

From cutting hundreds of puppet bases to setting up mountains of colourful foam, googly eyes and decorations, here’s a little peek at what went into bringing our Bookworm Finger Puppet workshop to life! 🥳

⚔️Big Trouble in Little Goblin Town 💚

What an epic way to finish our Winter School Holiday Art Club!

Yesterday our young adventurers journeyed into a goblin-filled world where imagination led the way. Together they created memorable characters, solved unexpected challenges, made big decisions and built a story that could only exist because everyone worked together! ✨✨

Dungeons & Dragons is so much more than a game. It encourages creative thinking, collaboration, problem-solving, communication and confidence, all while inspiring children to think outside the square and embrace the unexpected🥳

With intentionally limited group numbers, every player has the opportunity to contribute, be heard and play an important role in the adventure, whether it’s their very first campaign or they’re already a seasoned hero.

A huge thank you to our amazing DM Poppy, all of our brave adventurers for making our world of Goblins such a wonderfully chaotic place to visit! 🎲

🏰 Medieval Makers Society ⚔️✨

Hear ye, hear ye! Today our young artists stepped into the roles of castle builders, inventors and legendary adventurers for a day of medieval making!

The morning was all about thinking like architects as budding builders transformed flat cardboard into impressive castle sculptures complete with towering turrets, stained glass windows and secret doors. Through cutting, folding, slotting and layering, they discovered how simple materials can become extraordinary 3D worlds!

In the afternoon, the kingdom welcomed a herd of magical Pegasi! Artists designed whimsical rocking Pegasus sculptures, each carrying a brave rider of their own invention, whether a fearless knight, a daring explorer or themselves soaring through the clouds.

Another day filled with ambitious ideas, imaginative storytelling and hands-on creativity. ✨

🐦 Birds of a Feather - Pt 2 ✨

On Wednesday arvo afternoon our flock took to the skies with watercolour, coloured pencil and a little paper engineering!

Our young artists painted expressive birds inspired by species from around the world before giving them secret opening wings that reveal a hidden surprise inside!

Along the way, artists explored watercolour techniques, layered colour, fine details and the amazing shapes, colours and markings that make every bird different.

We think these artworks are something to chirp about!😜🪶
