Runner Length 101 - Read the caption for f***s sake

We are simply using the length of the intake runner (and port) to time the pulses going back and forth from the valve seat to the plenum.
Get that timing right and there is a nice big pressure wave waiting at the back of the intake valve that will force itself into the cylinder to give us a "boost" without any forced induction.

Yes, if you shorten your runner by 1", it will move the RPM band up higher in the RPM.
BUT
If you were able to make the runner LONG ENOUGH to reach the wave before that, you are still tuned to that rpm AND make more power as the pulses have not diminished as much and have more kinetic energy to cram into the cylinder.

We are generally limited by bonnet/chassis clearance and/or class restrictions which dictate the wave that we can use.

If you want to play around with your runner lengths, PipeMax is the program for you 🍻

I dont flow test manifolds during the RnD.

I will focus on the important things like the length, size, entries and plenum.
If it doesnt flow enough for the combination, start again with something else.
Unless you want to spend 5k-6k for me to chop and weld up your existing manifold (like in a class racing application), just start again.

If you're concerned about bonnet clearance, you must accept the fact that your low rise manifold will destroy horsepower, its just a fact.

Thats why I will always recommend the manifolds from Performance Prototyping and Engineering.
Designed properly from day 1 and all it requires is a port match to get you 90% of your desired results.
After that, its fine tuning for your combination.

Manifold Tech - The Intro ft. Performance Prototyping

There is a lot of info out there and you can get very lost in the data.
I am here to help simplify it and help you understand.

I will be going through:
- Runner length, how we measure it and why
- Runner sizing, how we measure it and why
- Plenum sizing, single plane vs tunnel ram, why its different.
- Runner entry radius, why this is so crucial to get right

These will no doubt be 2-parters each as I try to explain the definitions of each component and some insight as to why we spend so much time refining these.

Ill see yas on the next one 🍻

ADHD Content Creation

No word of a lie, my brain operates 10x faster than what can be said, just ask my customers and collegaues.
I am learning to slow it all down to be able to try and put my thoughts on paper, its a struggle.

Closed captions work a treat as I still speak too fast, so hopefully they come in handy for you guys.

Shoutout to the queen of content Bek Blackthorne | SM Manager ✨ for helping guide the way and put the chaos into perspective.

Cool s**t we make!

Water manifold for all the tunnel ram and custom manifold peeps.
4x -12AN in and either 1x -16AN or 1x -20AN out.
3/8"NPT for a gauge.
The neck is 2" diameter, so you can use a fuel pump mounting bracket to hard mount it remotely.

Making s**t for the first time is never smooth sailing.

If you exepct everything to work out perfectly the first time you make something, you will be disappointed.

Thats why we have 1st article products.
9/10 times it will be suitable for fitment testing and showcasing.
We can get it functional with modifications BUT you would never sell it to a customer. This is where we have the opportunity to change things if needed.

There is so much to go wrong in the CAM software, that it takes the most simplest thing to f**k it all up.
We make sure to make note of this with all our customers so no one is disappointed.

Once its all sorted, we can get after it and make it an efficient job where we can all make some money on another aussie made product 🍻

'Straya 🍻

When you are presented with the choice, buy aussie made.
Why? We actually care about the stuff we make.
We strive to make products that make this country proud.

Now im not talking about aussie companies that import stuff from overseas and call it aussie made, because thats just bulls**t.

Im talking about the manufacturers who make their stuff from scratch in the good ol' land down under.
Yes, we cost a bit more, but the money stays here where it belongs.

Support aussie manufacturing 🍻

Want to learn to be a CNC machinist?
It can be done without a full apprenticeship, BUT, it is a steep learning curve.

Ask me how I know....

So here's a few steps to get you started:
1. Download a free hobby license of Fusion360 from Autodesk
2. Watch and learn for free from the masters at Titans of CNC Machining
3. Watch and learn for free from Mr. Mark Terryberry himself at Haas Automation, Inc.
4. (Optional) Go see your mate Chris at CREST CNC PTY. LTD. to help you run your first program and pray to the omnissiah that you dont crash it...

That is quite literally how I went from nothing, to buying and operating my 5-Axis Haas UMC750 where I can cnc port all my own heads and manufacture all the go-fast goodies my customers can get today.

There is so much free education out there now, you can take your learning experience at your own pace.
Because at the end of the day, being able to make cool s**t and proudly say "I made that!" Is one of the best feelings.

Cool s**t for a Liebherr!

Fun fact, I am also a mobile crane technician.
So when these things were constantly breaking, I decided to make something a bit more sturdy.

After this, we will simply find the next weakest link in the door assembly....

I didnt plan on making more of these, but if enough people want one, we can always make a batch of them 🏗
