Here's a number worth sitting with: 45% of Australians now view Israel negatively. That's more than China, at 39%.

The reshuffle goes further: the US, at 40% negative, is now viewed almost exactly as unfavourably as China.

For years, political outrage directed at Pauline Hanson may have had an unintended effect: "she is the angry outsider we have co-created."

That’s the argument Peter Lewis makes in his latest op-ed, where he suggests Hanson has been most effectively challenged not through condemnation, but through scrutiny.

Instead of reacting with more outrage, he argues for engaging directly with her proposals and testing them in good faith.

Because according to him "none of her populist policies are actually that popular."
