Two outstanding ACS Young Tech Ambassadors recently delivered a session to 32 female students from Indooroopilly State High School's STEM Club, led by STEM Club leader Wendy Agnew.
A huge thank you to Tarushi G. and Sakshee T. for generously sharing their time, experiences and insights into careers in technology and software engineering.
The impact was immediate.
As Tarushi reflected, "It was a phenomenal session. I was really impressed with how inquisitive the kids were about software engineering. They asked thoughtful questions, engaged enthusiastically when answering and listened patiently as we walked them through our experiences. Their curiosity and engagement really showed, and it's clear that they're on a great track towards a future in technology."
The students' enthusiasm was evident throughout the session, with so many questions that we simply ran out of time to answer them all.
Wendy Agnew shared, "I am so grateful to Tarushi and Sakshee for being so generous with their time to help provide perspectives and ideas for our students who are interested in digital careers in the future. Students were very engaged in the talks and had so many follow-up questions for both speakers that we ran out of time to have them all answered."
Even more encouraging, Wendy has since heard from several female digital students who were unable to attend on the day but are now keen to participate in a mentoring program.
When asked about her experience Sakshee Tosniwal said “One of the most rewarding parts of being an ACS Young Tech Ambassador is getting to meet students who are genuinely curious about where technology can take them.
What I’ll remember most is the students’ energy; it was unreal. They had so many questions about AI, careers in tech, and the projects I work on that we actually ran out of time. Even after the session finished, groups of students stayed behind to keep the conversation going. It was especially encouraging to see that around half the audience were young women, all asking thoughtful questions and exploring what a future in STEM could look like for them.
I’m grateful to ACS and Indooroopilly State High School for the opportunity. Leaving the session, I felt just as inspired by the students’ curiosity as I hope they were by my story. I’m already looking forward to visiting again, and I’m excited to see what these students go on to achieve, their enthusiasm, confidence, and willingness to ask questions make me confident that the future is in great hands.”
These are exactly the kinds of conversations and connections that help students see themselves in future careers and build confidence in the opportunities available to them.
The Young Tech Ambassadors program is delivered in partnership with the Queensland Government’s Department of the Environment, Tourism, Science and Innovation.
