Racing
from Colin Hodges.

Local trainer Dean Mirfin produced an outstanding feat when winning both feature races on Sunday at the Bathurst Cup meeting.

Mirfin won the $50,000 The Kings Hotel “Big Dance Eligibility” Bathurst Cup over 1800 metres with Michelangelo while in the $110,000 The Panorama (1300 metres) he landed the quinella with Ishikari and Tom Vegas.

Danish Fortune and Danish Prince led the Cup field from Voracious and Southerly Buster while Michelangelo was settled midfield by leading apprentice Jacob Stiff,

In the straight, Michelangelo ($3.90) swept to the lead and won by over three lengths from Inquiring Minds (Anna Roper, $3.20 favourite) and Voracious (Brodie Loy, $11).

A talented field of sprinters lined up for The Panorama and it was Ishikari (Alysha Collett, $2.60 favourite) leading all the way to beat strong finishing stablemate Tom Vegas (Donovan Dillon, $3.40) by a long head with three lengths to the third placed Everido ($12) ridden by Nick Heywood.

Both the Mirfin trained gallopers had very good form prior to The Panorama with Ishikari winning and being placed at recent starts at Randwick and Rosehill while Tom Vegas had won the Central Districts -Country Championship Qualifier at Mudgee last February.

Dubbo trainer Connie Greig who won four races including the Cup at Geurie Picnics last Saturday had a winner Trifecta Ruby, in unusual circumstances, at Bathurst the next day.

Jazz All Knight was first over the line by a half length in the the 1200 metres Bill Aspros Cup-Benchmark 58 Handicap from the fast finishing Trifecta Ruby with another length to the third placed Fire ‘N’ Stone however a protest third versus first for severe interference in the straight was upheld.

Therefore, Trifecta Ruby (Donovan Dillon, $31) became the winner from Fire ‘N’ Stone (Adam Farragher, $4.80) and the demoted Jazz All Knight (Jordan Quince, $6).

Trained at Dubbo by Natalie Pearce, Western Warrior ( Kody Nestor,$3.80 favourite) led and then held on gamely to beat The Confidante (Izzy Neale, $6.50) and East Harlem (Emma Ly, $6.50) in the 1400 metres CM Steel & Rural Benchmark 58 Handicap.

The other winners were the Lyle Chandler, Scone trained May The Force (Reece Jones, $2.70 favourite) and Prince Of Verona (Heavelon Van Der Hoven, $9.50) trained at Warwick Farm by Annabel & Rob Archibald.
