Well as expected the Reserve Bank has lifted interest rates by 0.25% today

There’s been a lot of discussion about inflation and what’s driving it, so I thought I'd put some info together from the latest ABS data.

Australia’s annual inflation rate is currently 3.5%, and the biggest contributors are:

🏠 Housing — around 31% of the total inflation increase
🍎 Food & non-alcoholic drinks — around 16%
🏥 Health & Education — around 14%
🎟️ Recreation & Culture — around 9%
🍺 Alcohol & To***co — around 8%
🚗 Transport — around 5%

Within housing, some of the major increases include:

⚡ Electricity: +6.1%
🏗️ New dwellings: +5.7%
🏡 Rents: +3.6%

So while things like petrol and global prices certainly play a part, the current data shows a large part of Australia’s inflation pressure is coming from domestic areas such as housing, services, construction, food, health and education.
