✨ Meet Our Team – Rafael Odorizzi, Senior Mining Engineer ✨

From supporting hard-rock projects at Datamine Brazil and short-term planning at Anglo American Coal, Rafael Odorizzi built experience across mine design, scheduling and planning horizons.

Now based in Brisbane, and enjoying Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and cooking outside work, Rafael considers a pit optimisation and life-of-mine pit design project for Vale a defining experience for his career. He reviewed optimisation results, assessed scenarios and translated selected outputs into practical, mineable designs.

The challenge was maintaining consistency across multiple outputs while accounting for operational constraints. When an economically attractive result could not become a workable design, the assumptions had to be reviewed rather than accepting the software output.

The project gave Vale’s long-term planning team structured, traceable scenarios and practical designs for consistent evaluation and decision-making. It taught Rafael that optimisation supports decisions but never replaces engineering judgement.

Reliance on fragmented systems made material tracking manual, time-consuming to validate and difficult to manage consistently. ✨ Meet Our Team – Dias Zhabayev, Consultant in Geology ✨

From leading 3D geological modelling for two uranium deposits to supporting Datamine customers, Dias Zhabayev has built expertise across geological data, estimation and planning.

An integrated geological data management and grade control implementation became a defining Datamine project. Dias reviewed data flows, identified quality risks, supported migration, defined validation rules, tested the workflow and trained users.

The challenge was consolidating information created under different practices while operations continued. Inconsistent naming, formats and classifications required phased migration, staged testing and feedback from geology and operational teams.

The project established a controlled, traceable process for data entry, verification, correction and approval. Teams could identify incomplete records before interpretation or grade control, strengthening confidence in production decisions.

The experience taught Dias that technology provides the framework, but sustainable data quality depends on clear ownership, validation rules and consistent working practices.
