Community Services, Melbourne, Australia
PRONIA - for a stronger community PRONIA [Pron’-ya] empowers, advocates and cares for the Australian Greek community.

From its origins as a vital support system for the first wave of vulnerable Greek migrants, to building a strong community over 50 years in the making. And now paving the way for whole new generation to realise their potential. Our comprehensive support services, in-depth cultural knowledge, educational expertise and advocacy is undertaken with the aim of creating a stronger community that enables each and every person to overcome disadvantage and reach their potential. PRONIA means ‘to provide’ or ‘make provision for’ in Greek, but of course it also means more than that. Its deeper connotations of ‘care’ and ‘forethought’ lie at the heart of our mission.

Today, PRONIA CEO Sylvia Hadjiantoniou speaks with author, teacher and former PRONIA social worker Spiri Tsintziras about her deeply personal memoir, Twelve Golden Gifts.

Their conversation explores dementia, caregiving, grief and the complex emotions that come with supporting someone you love. Spiri also reflects on the lessons her mother left behind and her wish to preserve the stories of Greek migrant women whose sacrifices and experiences are too often left unrecorded.

Dementia Action Week, held from 21–27 September 2026, was an important opportunity to come together, raise awareness and show our support for people living with dementia and their carers.
Last week, PRONIA held events in both Melbourne and Hobart, bringing our communities together to celebrate and support carers, share valuable information, and highlight the services and support available through PRONIA.
Together, we continue to build stronger, more informed and connected communities. 💙

Dr Staios has conducted specialised research into the neuropsychological assessment of Greek Australian older adults. He explains why language, education and cultural background must be considered during cognitive assessment and discusses the tests and health professionals that may be involved when someone experiences changes in memory or thinking.
The conversation also looks at early warning signs, where families can begin seeking help, and the support available to people living with dementia and their carers.

𝗥 𝗨 𝗢𝗞? 𝗗𝗮𝘆 reminds us that a simple question can have a powerful impact.

By taking a moment to ask, “𝗔𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗢𝗞?” and truly listening to the answer, we can help support each other and build stronger connections in our workplace. Checking in does not have to be complicated: A quick conversation, a coffee break, or a thoughtful message can let someone know they are not alone.
If someone chooses to share what they are going through, listen without judgment, encourage them to seek support if needed, and follow up with them later.

Let us continue to care for one another and prioritise our wellbeing every day!
