Teacher candidates should not have to win the professor lottery.

Looking back, I realize I was one of the many teachers who graduated believing I knew how to teach reading, when in reality I had never been taught the research behind how children learn to read.

That shouldn't depend on which professor a teacher candidate happens to get.

Every future teacher deserves access to evidence based literacy instruction. Every child deserves a teacher who understands how reading develops and how to support students who struggle.
It's time for research informed teacher preparation to become the standard, not the exception.

I'm curious... if you're a teacher, did your university program prepare you to teach reading? If so, what did that training look like or NOT look like? 👇

Things that NAPLAN can’t measure.

The Lasting Lessons team wishes you and your family the merriest Christmas and the happiest new year.
