It was a pleasure to welcome local organisations, community groups and service providers this morning at our Logan Hub, to mark Loneliness Awareness Week.
The morning was filled with conversations about our shared commitment to creating a more connected and inclusive community.
Reducing loneliness takes collaboration to identify gaps, strengthen community connections, share knowledge, and build each other's capacity for a range of programs, services and supports. This is especially important for those who are more vulnerable to experiencing loneliness and social isolation, including older people, people living with disability, carers, and others who may face barriers to connection.
Thanks to reps from Logan City Council Logan VIEW Club Logan Central Respite Centre, Logan and District Orchid Society Inc Loganlea Community Centre Finncare - Finlandia Village & Villas Caxton Community Legal Centre CPL BlueCare
We look forward to continuing to work together to build a more connected community.

Loneliness affects people of all ages. At STAR, we are committed to reducing social isolation and building meaningful connections in our communities. Every conversation, every shared laugh, and every new friendship helps create a more connected community.

Last week, we celebrated International Friendship Day with wonderful events across Logan, Redlands, Ipswich, Lockyer Valley, Warwick, and Stanthorpe. It was inspiring to see so many people come together to connect, support one another, and remind us all that friendship has the power to change lives.

As we mark Loneliness Awareness Week, let's continue reaching out, checking in on our neighbours, inviting someone for a coffee, or simply taking the time to say hello.

Being prepared for a crisis or disaster starts long before an emergency happens. Saturday was a fantastic opportunity for the Logan community to come together to learn, connect and prepare.

We spoke to seniors about practical ways to be ready, including registering with My Aged Care before support is needed, having gutters cleared ahead of storm season and joining a STAR program like Phone Pals to receive regular wellbeing calls. We also highlighted the importance of downloading the Emergency+ app and registering for local disaster updates through your council, such as Logan's Disaster Dashboard: https://disaster.logan.qld.gov.au/

Congratulations to Crystal and her mum on winning the STAR Disaster Management Kit! โ˜บ๏ธ We hope you enjoy.

There were so many amazing community groups set-up at the event talking about legal and social support, disability support, getting connected, employment and more. The coffee from the Mylestones Employment Coffee Cart was delicious and the perfectly cooked sausages by Kลwhai Connect Inc. certainly had us going back for seconds.

A big thank you to Logan Multicultural Collaborative (LMC) and Logan City Council for bringing this important event together and for the invaluable support they provide to our community before, during and after times of crisis.
