Calling all organisations working with CALD communities!

We're co-hosting DiversConnect: Building Capacity Across Cultures with ECCQ - Ethnic Communities Council of Queensland, and expressions of interest are open now.

Saturday 28 November 2026
10am to 2pm
Beenleigh Town Square, 1 Kent Street, Beenleigh QLD
Free, all ages

A free, family fun day with activities for kids, multicultural food and performances.

Community Conversations run through the day too, around capacity for individuals, for older people and their families, and for whole communities. What one person learns travels to whoever needs it next.

Booths are free, and so are the food stalls. If you run a cultural food truck or food stall, we want you there too!

Submit your EOI here: https://diversabilities.com.au/expression-of-interest-diversconnect/

What a wonderful time at Care Expo Brisbane!

Our DiversAbilities stand was filled with welcomes in dozens of languages, because everyone deserves to feel at home when they're looking for support.

A big highlight was our "What reminds you of home?" board. Visitors wrote about Mum, home cooking, family, friends in different languages. It was a beautiful reminder that home looks different for everyone, but the feeling is the same.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by to chat or shared a story. It was great to connect with people with disability, carers, families and service providers from so many communities.

DiversAbilities is a free multilingual platform for people of all abilities and multicultural communities, with resources, events, community forums and a provider directory in one place.

There is no single place in Australia that lists free support groups. They sit across federal services, councils, health systems and community organisations.

Swipe for the places worth checking. ➡️

Our free Community Conversations Sessions are another place to start. They run across Melbourne and Brisbane, and you can come along, ask questions and meet other families going through the same thing. To sign up: https://diversabilities.com.au/expression-of-interest-community-conversations/

Improved Daily Living is one of the more confusing parts of an NDIS plan, so here's what it actually pays for.

It sits in Capacity Building, which means it's for building skills rather than having tasks done for you. Three things come out of it: assessments, skill building, and therapy.

Skill building can be anything from managing money to cooking, personal care, communication or getting around your area. Therapy covers OT, speech, physio, psychology and a few others. Worth knowing that reports, travel time and cancellation fees all come out of the same budget, so ask a provider how they charge.

Some things aren't funded at all. Gym memberships, personal training, massage, alternative therapies. Check your plan or ask your plan manager before you book anything.

We're a free platform for NDIS participants, families and carers. Provider search, plain language resources in multiple languages, and community sessions across Australia.

Some of the most common things families are told about autism are wrong, and the wrong information stops people from getting an assessment.

If you've heard any of these myths from a relative or in a community group chat, it's worth knowing the facts before they change what your family does next.

Early support gives a child more time to build communication and daily living skills.

Talk to your GP about an assessment. You can ask for a free interpreter.
