Enabling independence for people with intellectual disabilities through secure, affordable housing.

Project Independence is an innovative housing solution for people with an intellectual disability. We prepare and empower people to achieve truly independent living within PI and in the broader community. We provide a pathway to home ownership, allowing residents to gradually build equity in a property, using their Disability Support Pension. Since its inception in 2014 Project Independence has built 30 homes, with new developments underway in capital cities across Australia.

Good food, great company, and a special celebration! 🎉🍽️

Recently, our Harrison house enjoyed a buffet dinner to celebrate a resident’s birthday, with plenty of delicious food, laughter and good conversation.

At Project Independence, outings like these are about more than enjoying a meal. They’re opportunities to strengthen friendships, build connections and be part of the wider community.

We love seeing our residents getting out, spending time together and celebrating life’s special moments! 💙

🎂💙 14 years of independence, connection and belonging.

On 29 September, we celebrated 14 years of dreams realised, confidence built, friendships formed and lives changed.

For 14 years, Project Independence has been empowering people with intellectual disabilities to live with greater independence, purpose and belonging.

Thank you to every resident, family member, supporter, volunteer, staff member and partner who has been part of the journey. This milestone belongs to you too.

Here’s to 14 years of making independence possible — and to everything still to come.

Happy 14th Birthday, Project Independence! 🎉💙

Right now, too many people with intellectual disabilities face an uncertain housing future.

With your support, we can create homes where people can live independently, build meaningful connections and feel a true sense of belonging in their community.

Every gift brings us one step closer to a future where everyone has the opportunity to belong.

Give today and help open the door to independence, opportunity and a place to call home. đź’™

đź’™ Living Well at PI | What does independence mean to you?

Independence looks different for everyone.

For some, it’s making their own decisions. For others, it’s getting to work, managing appointments, spending time with friends, or simply having a place to call home.

At Project Independence, independence isn’t about doing everything alone. It’s about having the choice, confidence and support to live life your way.

Swipe to see what independence means to some of our residents. ➡️

đź’› Today is R U OK? Day đź’›

At Project Independence, we believe that checking in and supporting each other is one of the most powerful things we can do. Many people with intellectual disabilities face daily challenges — but with the right support, strong communities, and opportunities to live independently, they can thrive.

R U OK? Day is a reminder that mental health, belonging, and connection matter for everyone. At PI, we provide more than just housing — we create safe, supportive homes where friendships grow and people feel part of a community.

💬 This R U OK? Day, let’s keep the conversations going.
💬 Let’s make sure no one feels alone.
💬 And let’s build more homes where people can live with dignity and independence.
