Goolwa Rowing Club
Since 2001 GRC has been seen on the Mighty Murray River, enjoying the tranquil views around Goolwa, but without a permanent home.
We are all excited for the future when GRC has a purpose built water-adjacent facility to help grow rowing on the Fleurieu.

Today Goolwa Rowing Club came together to celebrate at our very own Breakfast of Champions at Islanders Tavern. Turning it into a sea of red jackets, we celebrated the amazing success of Kate, Katja Tebneff and the South Australian Womenâs 8 who came home with a swag of medals. The Womenâs Interstate Eight claimed the trophy for SA, while Kate earned an impressive: 3 Gold medals for a Mixed E Grade double, the interstate Womenâs 8, Womenâs B Grade quad and Silver medals in the WB2x and WC4x.
Club President Simon Burr congratulated Kate on the result, recognising the pathway from early efforts to this well-deserved success.
Kate acknowledged the support of family, especially fellow rower/champion and Mum, Diana Tebneff, and her rowing âvillageâ of GRC and others.
Our Club prides itself on being able to compete at the highest levels as well as celebrating all membersâ efforts to learn and enjoy rowing on some of the best waterways around.
This Club deserves a proper facility to call home, where we can welcome everyone to come and help with our mission of âGrowing Rowing on the Fleurieuââ and maybe a display case for all that bling!!
Donât forget to let Alexandrina Council know of your support for Goolwa Rowing Club via the Mysay survey open now.

It doesnât get much better than this! Whenever there is the slightest hesitation about whether to get up early and row on the sensational waters around Goolwa, the river responds with mirror flat conditions, the wind drops and the sun comes out. Weâre so proud of our Goolwa Rowing Club community đđŁ
After celebrating local rower Kate Tebneff and her incredible 3 gold and 2 silver medals at the Masters Nationals in Perth, weâre also reflecting on what our club has been working towards for many years.
For 25 years, our members have been part of life on the Lower Lakes while working towards a permanent home in Goolwa. Right now, our boats are stored on Hindmarsh Island and must be trailered around 300 metres to and from the nearest launch site.
The Club has been working tirelessly toward a purpose-built, water-adjacent rowing facility at Bristow Smith Reserve, where we hold a current lease. A proposed change to the lease would remove the requirement for a public deck â a practical, more environmentally responsible and cost-saving step that would help move the project forward.
Community consultation is now open until 24 June.
If youâd like to support a rowing facility in Goolwa, and the request to remove the deck requirement, please share your feedback via the Council consultation link below by tapping on the photo.

Recently Goolwa Rowing Club was congratulating our Kate, Katja Tebneff on her selection in the State womenâs squad for the Masters in Perth this month. Today we celebrate her incredible success in the first division of the Mixed E grade 2x (or double). Average age of crew 55-59. Kate and Mick Wilson from Ulverstone Rowing Club lead from start to finish setting a blistering pace in their division and being the fastest overall boat of the 3 mixed events. The Goolwa WhatsApp group was going off as members watched the race livestream. Weâre sure our collective cheering, including Club stalwart Tish Barrow, there in person to capture these images, made all the difference, although Mick and Kate will probably think it had something to do with the unbelievable effort they put in!! Congratulations to Mick and Kate. Go Gooolwaaaa! (And Ulverstone!)
