That tiny corner of the nail can cause a whole lot of pain 😣
If your toe hurts in shoes, feels tender along the nail edge or keeps becoming red and swollen, an ingrown toenail could be behind it.
It happens when the edge of the nail grows into the surrounding skin. Cutting nails too short, picking at the corners, tight footwear and naturally curved nails can all contribute.
Tempted to dig it out yourself? Put the clippers down. Picking or cutting into the corner can damage the skin and make things worse.
Our podiatrists can assess what’s causing the irritation, treat the troublesome nail edge and discuss options if it keeps coming back.
You don’t need to wait until every step hurts. Book an appointment and let’s get it checked.
If you notice pus, spreading redness or worsening pain, seek prompt medical care. Have diabetes, poor circulation or reduced feeling in your feet? Get advice early.

YOUR HEEL PAIN IS TRYING TO TELL YOU SOMETHING 👀
“Heel pain” isn’t one single condition, and where and when it hurts can provide important clues:
✅ Sharp pain underneath the heel, especially during your first steps in the morning, may involve the plantar fascia
✅ Pain or stiffness at the back of the heel may be related to the Achilles tendon
✅ A deep, bruise-like ache in the centre of the heel may involve the heel’s natural cushioning
✅ Pain that is worsening, occurring at rest or changing the way you walk should be properly assessed
Rest might temporarily settle the pain, but if the underlying cause isn’t addressed, it can continue to return. Treatment depends on what is actually causing your symptoms and may include changes to activity, strengthening, footwear advice, strapping, orthoses, or shockwave therapy when appropriate.
If your heel pain keeps coming back, is getting worse or is stopping you from doing the things you enjoy, don’t keep trying to “walk it off”.

👣Have a painful corn on your toe? Don’t just put up with it!
That hard, painful spot on your toe could be a corn caused by pressure and friction from footwear, toe position or the way your foot moves.
❌ Cutting it yourself
❌ Ignoring the pain
❌ Wearing different shoes
…may not address the reason the corn keeps coming back.
So, how do you treat a corn on a toe properly?
Our latest guide explains what can cause corns on the toes, what you can do to help relieve them, and when it may be time to see a podiatrist.

If your shin pain is starting earlier, lasting longer or showing up when you walk, this is your sign to stop calling it “just shin splints” 👀
“Shin splints” commonly refers to medial tibial stress syndrome, an overload-related condition that causes pain and tenderness along the inside of the shin bone.
It often appears after:
🏃 A sudden increase in running or training
⛰️ Adding more hills, speed work or jumping
👟 Training in worn or unsuitable footwear
📅 Returning to exercise after time away
🦵 Repeatedly loading the legs without enough recovery
In the early stages, you may only notice an ache during or after exercise. The pain might settle with rest or even feel better once you warm up, but that does not necessarily mean the problem has resolved.
If you continue pushing through it, the pain may begin earlier, last longer and eventually affect everyday walking.
Pain in one exact spot, pain at rest or during the night, swelling or limping should be assessed. These symptoms may indicate a bone stress injury or another cause of shin pain that requires different management.
Simply resting until the pain disappears may provide temporary relief, but if the factors contributing to the overload are not addressed, it can return as soon as you start training again.
A podiatry assessment can consider your training load, footwear, walking or running pattern, strength, mobility and foot function to determine what may be contributing to your symptoms.
The goal is not always to stop everything. It is to help you manage the load appropriately and return to activity safely.

Not all flat feet need “fixing”... but these signs shouldn’t be ignored 👀
Plenty of people have low arches, stay active and never experience any problems. Flat feet alone do not automatically mean something is wrong.
So, when should you actually pay attention?
✅ Your feet are painful, stiff, weak or numb
✅ You keep experiencing foot or ankle injuries
✅ Walking or balancing has become difficult
✅ Your arch has recently started to flatten
✅ Only one foot has suddenly become flat
✅ Your symptoms are stopping you from doing the activities you enjoy
If you’re pain-free and moving comfortably, your flat feet may simply be part of how your body is built.
The goal isn’t to make every foot look “perfect.” It’s to identify whether your foot posture is genuinely contributing to pain or affecting your movement.
If any of these signs sound familiar, consider this your sign to have your feet properly assessed.
