Tick Bites Can Cause Anaphylaxis

For some people, a tick bite can trigger a serious allergic reaction, including anaphylaxis.

If you find a tick:
❄️ FREEZE it — don’t squeeze it.
🚫 Don’t pull, twist or disturb the tick
👀 Watch for signs of an allergic reaction
🚨 If signs of anaphylaxis develop, give adrenaline if available and call 000

Signs such as difficulty breathing, throat or tongue swelling, wheezing, dizziness or collapse require immediate action.

If you suspect a snake bite, movement can increase the spread of venom through the lymphatic system.

🩹 Apply a pressure immobilisation bandage
🦵 Immobilise the entire limb with a splint
🛑 Keep the person completely still
📞 Call 000 immediately
🚫 Don’t wash the bite, cut it, suck it or try to catch the snake

After a suspected snake bite, keeping the person completely still is extremely important. Movement can increase the movement of venom through the lymphatic system.

If you suspect a snake bite:
🛑 Keep the person still and reassure them
📞 Call 000 immediately
🩹 Apply a pressure immobilisation bandage
🦵 Immobilise the bitten limb
🚫 Do not wash the bite site
🚫 Do not let the person walk
