North Esk Rowing Club
#NERC was established 1899 when James Boag became the club’s first President. Today we cater for beginner, junior, experienced & disabled rowers.
The original building erected in 1902 was partly burnt down towards the end of the Second World War and what was left was used as a boatshed until 1964. Membership at that time is estimated to have been around 20. In 1965 the club purchased a 20 year-old steel workshop used in the construction of the Trevallyn Power Station for use as clubrooms. However in 2002 with membership at over 100 the building could no longer service the needs of its members. In 2006 the club moved to a new site in Lindsay St Invermay opposite the Seaport where members currently enjoy one of the best clubroom facilities in Australia with some of the best water that can be found anywhere.

World Rowing Masters Regatta
The annual WRMR was held at Lake Bled between the 9th and 13th of September this year. NERC was represented by Patrick Bird and achieved the following results in these events:
1st - D1x - NERC
1st - D2x - NERC/Tartu (Estonia) composite
5th - E2x - NERC/Cairns composite
4th - C8+ - NERC/Newcastle/Riverway/Swan River composite
2nd - Mix E2x - NERC/St. George composite
3rd - Mix E4x - NERC/Cairns/St. George composite
Patrick was also entered in the C1x, which was cancelled due to thunderstorms. There were issues with the boat hire for E2x and the Mix E4x which affected the race results, but generally had a good regatta with the two victories and other results!

It is with heavy hearts World Rowing mourns the passing of Olaf Tufte of Norway, 4x Olympic medallist and 6x World Championship medallist.
A fierce competitor on the water, and a great friend to everyone off of it, Olaf was also a recipient of the Thomas Keller Medal, the highest distinction in the sport.
Our hearts go out to Olaf’s family, the Norwegian Rowing Federation, and the entire rowing community.
