The best part of selling timber, tools and supplies? Seeing what they become once they leave our store.

These builds are a good reminder that there’s no single way to be a woodworker. One person sees a table. Another sees a sculpture, a serving board, a pen or something completely unexpected.

Glue won’t fix a joint that doesn’t fit properly in the first place.

If you’re seeing gaps, check that both mating surfaces are flat, square and cut to the same angle. Dry fit everything before reaching for the glue bottle, then correct any high spots or mismatched cuts while you can still do something about them.

The glue-up isn’t the time to discover your mitres disagree.

Save this for your next timber joinery project, or send it to a mate who keeps trying to clamp the gap away.

Can I skip sanding grits?

Skipping sanding grits feels faster. Right up until you’re chasing scratches that refuse to disappear.

Small jumps are usually fine, but jumping too far leaves the next abrasive trying to remove marks it wasn’t designed to handle. That means more sanding, more frustration and often a less consistent finish.

A steady grit progression does the job properly. Make sure each stage removes the scratches from the grit before it, clear away the dust, then move on. It’s not the glamorous part of woodworking, but your finish will absolutely notice.
