A resumé tells you what someone says they’ve done. A great interview uncovers the evidence behind it.

At WorkTrybe, we interview candidates face-to-face using the STAR methodology — Situation, Task, Action, Result — to understand what someone actually did, how they approached it and the outcome they achieved.

It gives us a structured, evidence-based way to assess experience, capability and fit, reducing the reliance on bias or “gut feel”.

And it’s a skill every hiring manager should have.

Do your managers need interview training? WorkTrybe’s practical two-hour sessions are ready to go.

Better interviews. Better hiring decisions.

Bryce came to us looking for a new customer service role.

Two things were important to him about this new job. He wanted a job where he could put his years of experience to good use, and he especially wanted a team of like-minded people he could stick with long-term.

It didn't take long for Alanna to see what mattered to him. Bryce genuinely loves working with people, loves to help a customer solve their problem, and he wanted a team that matched that same enthusiastic energy.

And from that, Alanna found Bryce the perfect job at Sumo Energy!

We're so proud of Bryce, and even more excited for what's ahead for him. Here's to bringing that same positive energy to every customer he speaks to.

Welcome to your next chapter, Bryce 🎉

Work is changing. And for many people, that change can feel relentless.

Restructures, new technology, automation, shifting expectations and uncertainty about what comes next are becoming a more regular part of working life. At the same time, we’re all balancing the things that exist beyond work. Family, health, relationships, finances and life itself.

Today is R U OK? Day. It’s an important reminder that behind every role, team and organisation are people navigating change in different ways.

As the world of work evolves, looking after people can’t just be about helping them perform or adapt. It also means recognising the impact change can have, creating space for honest conversations and building workplaces where people feel supported through uncertainty.

So today, don’t just ask someone how work is going.

Ask how they’re going REALLY.

You’ve made a great hire. Now comes the part that can determine whether they thrive.

The first 90 days aren’t just about getting someone up to speed. They’re about creating the conditions for them to succeed.

It’s where expectations become clear, relationships are built, confidence grows and people start to understand how they fit — not just into the role, but into the team and the culture.

A great onboarding experience goes beyond systems, processes and introductions. It creates clarity, connection and a sense of belonging from the start.

Because finding the right person is only the beginning. What happens next can shape everything that follows.

At WorkTrybe, we help organisations think beyond the hire and build better employee experiences from day one.

Women’s Health Week is a chance to think about what it really means to live and work well.

Our understanding of women’s health has come a long way. Conversations that were once rarely had at work, about fertility, menopause, chronic conditions, mental health, recovery and caring, are becoming part of a broader conversation about how we create healthier, more sustainable working lives.

And as our understanding of health evolves, our workplaces need to evolve with it.

At WorkTrybe, we believe better work should contribute to better lives. That means creating workplaces where people have the flexibility and support to look after their health, without feeling that doing so comes at the expense of their career, contribution or opportunity.

Our work with women across different workplaces and communities, including the AFLW, continues to shape how we think about that relationship between health, work and life.

There has been real progress. But there is still more to learn, more to talk about and more to change.

Because the future of work shouldn’t just be about how we work better.

It should be about how work helps us live better, too.

Father’s Day means something different to everyone.

It can be about biological dads, stepdads, adoptive dads, foster dads, grandfathers, father figures, mentors, partners, or simply the people who have shown up with the kind of care, guidance and support we associate with being a dad.

It can also be a day that holds complicated feelings — of celebration, gratitude, remembrance or reflection.

At WorkTrybe, we think days like Father’s Day are a reminder that none of us comes to work as just an employee. We bring the people we care for, the relationships that matter to us and the responsibilities we carry outside of work with us.

As workplaces continue to evolve, there’s an opportunity to make more room for all of that — giving people the flexibility to be present for the moments and people that matter, whatever family looks like for them.

How we actually vet a candidate before they reach our clients:

1. Verified proof of results. Not what's on the resume, but what they can back up with when we ask, "Walk me through how you did that."

2. A structured conversation against the same requirements the client needs filled, not a generic chat.

3. Reference calls that ask about how they work under pressure, not just "would you rehire them."

Most agencies send resumes. We send people we actually vouch for.

That's the difference between filling a role and filling it with the right person.

HR issues don't happen overnight.

They build over time. Inconsistent hiring. Outdated documents. Compliance gaps. Managers stretched too thin.

The earlier you spot the signs, the easier they are to fix.

If any of these challenges sound familiar, WorkTrybe can help you build a more connected, compliant, and scalable HR function.

Most companies default to hiring externally when a role opens up, and that's usually the wrong first move.

Promoting from within is faster, cheaper, and comes with almost no ramp-up risk. You already know how this person works, what they're capable of, and whether they fit the team.

But companies skip it constantly, usually for one of two reasons.

1) nobody internally looks "ready enough" on paper, or;
2) leadership assumes fresh perspective only comes from outside.

Both are worth challenging. "Ready enough" is often just "hasn't done the exact title before", which is a resume problem, not a readiness problem. And fresh perspective can come from someone stepping into a bigger role just as easily as someone new walking in the door.

External hiring makes sense when you genuinely need a skill set or experience nobody internally has. It shouldn't be the automatic first move.

Before you open a search, ask who on the team could grow into it, and what's actually stopping you from finding out.
