Invasive Replace is dedicated to the removal of Invasive plants and animals and replanting of natives

Invasive Replace recently went to Ajax road grassland and tackled an infestation of invasive needle leaved broom.

It was a big patch but our tree popper made light work of it.

Needle leaved broom is a problematic w**d as it smothers native vegetation and spreads easily by the masses of seeds it produces. They are also a nitrogen fixer which sounds good but excessive nitrogen stumps native plant growth and increases w**d growth.

The seeds are viable in the ground for years so this will require follow up but at just now there won't be any more seeds produced.

A quick before and after of a w**ding and habitat garden planting I did this week.

I planted a selection of native grasses including tussock grass (Poa), wallaby grass (Rytidosperma) and spear grass (Austrostipa). As well as a nice mix of flowering plants including Austral storks bill (Pelargonium australis), Golden Billybuttons (Pycnosorus globosus), Lemon Beauty Heads (Calocephalus citreus), Common Everlasting (Chryscocphalum apiculatum), and Native Flax (Linum marginale) as well as a small shrub Gold Dust Wattle (Acacia acinacea).

This garden is gonna grow beautifully and support a wide variety of locally native pollinators.

A fallen branch is an excellent opportunity to build some animal habitat.

This branch fell from a tree in one of my revegetation sites so I took the opportunity to create some animal habitat.

I piled up the smaller branches, leaves and twigs into a brush pile that will be used by birds, insects, reptiles and more and the main branch will be turned into bee hotels.

Merry Christmas everyone!

For Christmas to nature I installed a rainbow lorikeet and micro bat box!

These will provide super valuable breeding and roosting habitat helping supplement the tree hollows that are lacking in urban environments.

I've got more animal boxes available if anyone has a good spot to put one.

I went and visited the fabulous Evans street grassland in Sunbury.

It was chocked full of indigenous flowers and looked beautiful.

Here's a list of the flowers as they appear:
1. Chocolate Lily (Arthropodium strictum)
2. Flax Lily (Dianella sp.)
3. Blue Devil (Eryngium ovinum)
4. Common Everlasting (Chrysocephalum apiculatum)
5. Blue Grass Lily (Caesia calliantha)
6. P***y Tails (Ptilotus spathulatus)
7. Curved Rice Flower (Pimelea curviflora)

Evans street grassland is well worth a visit.
