Did you catch the recent article from Bec Wilson in the Age/SMH (paywalled)? She calculates that keeping your money in super instead of the bank could mean an extra $174,000 over ten years for someone who retires with $500,000: https://bit.ly/4wQvRGF
She says, “Apparently, many people are unaware of the benefits of keeping their money in super, and don’t know about the really juicy upside of moving your superannuation into a retirement phase account so you can enjoy tax-free income when you’re retired”.
She also lists Vision Super Balanced Growth as one of the top 5 performers over 10 years! Of course you should bear in mind that past performance is not a reliable indication of future performance, and that Bec’s calculations won’t be relevant for everyone - your own circumstances may be different.
But if you’re over retirement age and think you might be missing out, give us a call on 1300 300 820 and we can help you work through your options. 🙂

The simple $174,000 question many retirees still get wrong I was asked a straightforward question on social media this week. To my surprise, it sparked an enormous conversation.

Thinking about your super fund options? The type of super fund you’re with can affect things like fees, investment options and, ultimately, your retirement savings.
You may have heard of self-managed super funds (SMSFs). While SMSFs can offer greater flexibility and control over how your super is invested, they also come with responsibilities, time commitments, and costs. People who set up SMSFs also lose some of the protections they would have as a member of an APRA-regulated fund.
Before deciding whether a SMSF is right for you, it’s important to understand what’s involved.

Have you heard about Payday super? There’s been a lot of discussion about it lately, but did you know it could help you have more super when you retire?
From 1 July 2026, employers will need to pay your super at the same time as your salary or wages, instead of only having to make payments every three months. The change is designed to help make sure we all get paid the super we’re entitled to. It could also mean that your money starts working for you sooner, giving it more time to benefit from potential investment returns.

Have you thought about giving your super a boost before the end of the financial year?
Making an extra contribution, even a small one, could help grow your retirement savings over time. Depending on your circumstances, it may also help reduce your taxable income for the financial year.

Well done to the nominees who received an Honourable Mention in the Environment, Infrastructure and Recreation Local Heroes Award – Regional category, coming very close to winning one of the official prizes.
Naomi, Ben, Lee, Debbie and Leteisha from Cessnock City Council's Waste Management Centre were recognised for their extraordinary courage, teamwork and compassion during a workplace medical emergency in September 2025. When a colleague suffered a major heart attack, Naomi, Ben and Lee acted immediately, performing CPR and using a defibrillator to sustain his life until paramedics arrived, while Debbie and Leteisha coordinated vital support behind the scenes.
Paramedics confirmed their swift actions gave their colleague valuable extra time, allowing him to spend his final days with family. The facility remained operational during the incident, requiring staff to simultaneously manage members of the public onsite. Despite the distressing circumstances, the team remained calm, professional and supportive, demonstrating the very best of local government service.
