We just caught the gas industry, RED HANDED trying to influence the Victorian Government's energy policies by hiring a lobbyist to author a baseless scare campaign.

The gas lobby has written a playbook to pressure Victoria into scrapping the ban on gas connections in new homes. Our CEO Jono explains what’s at stake: cheaper, cleaner homes for Victorians, or more customers for the gas industry.

Read The Guardian’s investigation via the link in our bio for the full story.

Sound off in the comments if you think Victorians deserve better, and that our government shouldn't be influenced by the fossil fuel industry and their billionaire mates >>

Leaked documents reveal the gas industry is pressuring Victorian MPs behind closed doors & threatening to run a fact-free scare campaign 😡 Phasing out gas slashes household energy bills. But the owners of the gas network want to keep you hooked on expensive gas that pollutes your home ... just to protect their profits 🤑

This is what Jess Wilson had to say when we asked her directly about her plans for Victoria’s energy future. We need cost of living relief now, not more gas exploration and politician spin.

Jess Wilson and the Liberal-National Coalition are promising to slow Victoria’s renewable energy transition and rely more heavily on non-existent gas and our ageing coal power stations.

With the Victorian election approaching, we’re talking to people across the state about the choices being made about our energy future, and why it is the path to lower bills and less pollution.

We’re deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Tim Read.

Tim was Victorian Greens Brunswick MP for the last eight years and a local GP and researcher. Tim was a tireless advocate for climate action, active transport and public health.

He was widely respected and always ready to listen. We will remember his integrity, intelligence and kindness. Our thoughts are with his family and friends.

Tim asked that instead of flowers donations be made to Friends of the Earth Melbourne and the Inner North Community Foundation.

Power is growing in Melbourne's West

On Tuesday night, 270 community leaders from 70 organisations came together in Werribee for the first Our West, Our Future Listening assembly, and we couldn’t be more proud.

Multicutual and faith communities, First Nation leaders, unions, neighborhood houses, environment groups, community originations and advocates came together to listen, share stories and talk about the future of the West.

Thank you to everyone who attended, volunteered and made the event happen. This truly was a collaboration for our community, by our community. We also thank all our core partners:

Real Deal Geelong
Wyndham Park Community Centre
GenWest
Heeryesu
Indian Care

We also want to thank the decision makers who were able to make it (and hopefully will make it to the next) for your commitments

John Lister - Labor for Werribee
Brittney Henderson
Dr Joe Garra
Andrew Elsebury
Venkat Ram Upparlapalle - Liberal for Tarneit
Reece Clark - Liberal for Werribee

Together, we are just getting started. To stay in touch:

The night launched Our West Listens, a campaign to hold 1000 conversations across Melbournes’ west by April 2027, hearing directly from communities about what matters most and what we can take action on together.

Join our online post-assembly update to hear what happened, and what comes next.

Environment Victoria stands in solidarity with workers at Parks Victoria taking industrial action for better pay ✊🏽🌲

For nearly 15 years, the hard working rangers, environmental scientists, and administrators of Parks Victoria have been held back by wages and conditions that are below other public sector workers. These are the people who manage the state’s extensive public lands, parks, and reserves, and ensure our natural environment is protected for generations of Victorians to enjoy.

These workers are the first responders in natural disasters, but last in line for public sector wages. For too long, public sector workers at Parks Victoria have been underpaid and overworked.

Here's what you can do to support Parks Victoria workers >>

Environment Victoria applauds the Greens decision to back the INFM method, a vital pathway to secure forest protections, end native forest logging, and create the Great Koala National Park in NSW 🌲🐨

The agreement between the Greens and the Federal Government also delivers crucial new safeguards to the INFM method.

Thank you to all the people who took action to help secure this, in solidarity with our comrades in the NSW conservation movement, and frontline forest campaigners 👏🏾👏🏽

Expensive gas and old, clunky coal power 😐 This is the plan the Victorian Liberals and One Nation have for Victoria. But it comes with a hefty price tag, and you’ll pay the bill 💸

We worked with the experts at Nexa Advisory to find out exactly how much delaying clean energy projects would cost, and Victorian households could be slugged with an extra $472 on their power bills.

But things get much worse if they follow through with their plans to scrap critical transmission links! See the report here envict.org/cost-of-delay

If we stop building clean energy, Victoria will be stuck burning more methane gas (the most expensive form of power) and relying more on old coal power stations that are past their use-by date. Yallourn is over 50 years old, and since 2020 its four generating units have averaged more than 8,000 hours of total downtime each year!

Backed by a boom in battery storage, renewable energy now generates almost half of Victoria’s electricity, and wholesale electricity prices fell 60% in the past year.

Yet One Nation (backed by billionaire Gina Rinehart) and the Victorian Liberals want to throw away that progress just as we are starting to see the benefits.

So Victoria has a choice.

One path means cheaper, cleaner energy and less reliance on old and polluting energy.

The other means higher bills, more pollution and throwing away our progress

Recently, we called out Jess Wilson MP and the Victorian Liberals’ plan to scrap VNI West, which would carry electricity between Vic and NSW - and rely on expensive “new gas” to power Victoria.

Our CEO Jono La Nauze went on the radio and called out the lies the liberals are spinning about the viability of the plan — because Victorians deserve leaders who tell them the truth about where our energy comes from, what it costs and what will actually keep the lights on.

Jess Wilson went back on the radio and said our comments were rude.

We might be blunt, but we stand by our statements – you deserve to know what will happen if their plan goes ahead.

Victoria has already used up 90% of its commercially viable gas reserves, and what’s left can cost up to twice as much to produce. Meanwhile, wind and solar are already producing cheaper electricity.

You can have alternative plans. You can’t have alternative facts.

Victorians deserve an honest debate about our energy future - especially in an election year.
