A little bit of Australian dancing history found on you tube with some footage of the 1961 Australian Ballroom Dancing Championship.
You will see couple number 10 in the Ballroom section, Keith & Joan Collins who were former Amateur Champions.
Couple number 5 in the Latin, who were the winners of both the Ballroom and the Latin Professional events, the great Kevin Gibson & Shirley Saunderson. Kevin & Shirley were also World Professional Ballroom and Latin Finalists and winners of no less than 14 Australian Professional titles.
Fabulous footage to see although extremely short.
Never forget our past and those who led the way for Australian dancers.
We are always looking for more video footage from years gone past, if anyone has anything they would like to share, please feel free to forward to us at [email protected] or send us a DM.

A little information about the WDO - World Dance Organisation, and how it began.

The WDO was derived from the collective desires of many competitors, teachers, coaches, judges, organisers and organisations to have Amateur World Championships and other Competitive Dance Events around the globe, with equal opportunity for all dancers.

The WDO started as the World Dance Organisers in 2019. The Inaugural WDO meeting was held on the 30th of May 2019 in Blackpool, England. The meeting was overwhelmingly supported by the profession and principles of fairness, integrity, freedom, human rights and liberty for all were discussed.

It was declared that the WDO would be dedicated to supporting these principles in dance and providing new opportunities worldwide, through a non-profit organisation.

The WDO Community Interest Company is a non-profit entity and was registered in England on the 16th of September 2019 and on the 8th of September 2020 it was announced that World Dance Organisers would make the transition to the World Dance Organisation. The transition was completed on the 8th of December 2020 after the necessary changes to the WDO Articles of Association and Rules were approved by the WDO members.

All of the WDO World Championships across all categories and age groups from Juveniles and Solo's, right through to Amateur & Professional level, have been hugely successful with many participants in all categories.

Outside Change would like to thank the WDO for the opportunity and it's support and trust in hosting the 2027 WDO World Professional Latin Championship, right here in Melbourne, Australia at the magnificent Plaza Ballroom. It will be the first time a WDO World Championship would have been held in the Southern Hemisphere, and the first time a World Professional Championship has been held in Australia since 1980. We are so very proud to take on this event with great pride and we are definitely on the count down with just 284 days to go.

Please take a look at the WDO website, and consider becoming a member, whether it be as an adjudicator or competitor. There are so many fabulous events around the world and especially Asia that are run under the WDO Banner.

Integrity, Respect, Inclusivity and Transparency.
