Tennis Elbow β What Is It and How Can You Manage It? πΎ
Tennis elbow, also known as lateral elbow tendinopathy, is a common condition that causes pain around the outside of the elbow β and you certainly donβt need to play tennis to experience it!
Common symptoms can include:
β’ Pain or tenderness on the outside of the elbow
β’ Pain with gripping, lifting or carrying
β’ Discomfort opening jars or turning door handles
β’ Pain with repetitive hand or wrist activities
β’ Reduced grip strength due to pain
Tennis elbow often develops when the tendons around the elbow are exposed to more load than they are currently able to tolerate. This may occur with manual work, gardening, gym exercises, racquet sports, computer work or a sudden increase in activity.
Management may include modifying aggravating activities, progressive strengthening of the wrist and forearm, gentle stretching and mobility exercises, and hands-on treatment where appropriate.
The good news is that most cases can be managed conservatively, with gradually rebuilding the strength and capacity of the tendon being an important part of recovery.
Experiencing persistent elbow pain? Our osteopaths can assess your symptoms and develop an individual management and rehabilitation plan to help you get back to the activities you enjoy.

Have you used your Medicare Care Plan visits for 2026? π
Weβre now well into 2026, so itβs a great time to check whether youβre eligible for β or have visits remaining under β a GP Chronic Condition Management Plan (GPCCMP).
Eligible patients may be able to access up to 5 Medicare-subsidised allied health visits per calendar year, shared across eligible allied health providers.
At Yarra Ranges Osteopathy, GPCCMP osteopathy appointments with Dr Indigo Clyde and Dr Angus Geals are 100% bulk billed, meaning no gap and no out-of-pocket cost for eligible appointments.
π You may have noticed the name has changed!
What many people previously knew as an EPC, CDM or Team Care Arrangement has changed. From 1 July 2025, the new GP Chronic Condition Management Plan (GPCCMP) replaced the previous GP Management Plan and Team Care Arrangement system.
If you have an ongoing health condition, speak with your GP about whether you may be eligible and whether osteopathy could be included as part of your plan.
Already have a referral? Now is a good time to check whether you have any visits remaining for 2026.

𦡠Knee Osteoarthritis: Keep Moving, Keep Living π¦΅
If you've been diagnosed with knee osteoarthritis, you're certainly not alone. While it's often described as "wear and tear", we now know it's a complex condition affecting the cartilage, bone, ligaments and surrounding muscles. The good news? There are many effective ways to manage your symptoms and stay active.
Common symptoms include:
βοΈ Knee pain during or after activity
βοΈ Stiffness, especially in the morning or after sitting
βοΈ Swelling
βοΈ Reduced movement or flexibility
βοΈ Grinding or clicking sensations
βοΈ Difficulty walking, climbing stairs or getting up from a chair
How can osteopathy help?
At Yarra Ranges Osteopathy, we focus on helping you reduce pain, improve movement and get back to doing the things you enjoy.
Treatment may include:
πΏ Hands-on treatment to improve joint mobility and reduce muscle tension
πͺ Individualised strengthening and mobility exercises
π Education to better understand and manage your condition
πΆ Advice on pacing activities and safely returning to hobbies and exercise
What does the research say?
Current clinical guidelines consistently recommend:
β
Exercise is the most effective first-line treatment for knee osteoarthritis.
β
Strengthening the muscles around the knees and hips can reduce pain and improve stability.
β
Low-impact activities like walking, cycling and swimming are excellent choices.
β
Even modest weight loss (5β10% of body weight) can significantly improve symptoms for those carrying extra weight.
Simple things you can do at home
βοΈ Stay as active as your symptoms allow
βοΈ Keep up with your strengthening exercises
βοΈ Avoid sitting for long periods
βοΈ Use heat or ice if it helps during flare-ups
βοΈ Wear supportive footwear
βοΈ Gradually build up your activity rather than avoiding movement
While osteoarthritis can't currently be reversed, many people successfully manage their symptoms and continue living active, fulfilling lives with the right combination of education, exercise and hands-on care.
If knee pain is limiting your day-to-day activities, we'd love to help.

Heel Pain? It Could Be Plantar Fasciitis π£
Do your first few steps out of bed in the morning hurt? Does your heel ache after standing or walking for long periods?
You may be experiencing plantar fasciitis, one of the most common causes of heel pain.
At Yarra Ranges Osteopathy, we'll identify what's contributing to your symptoms and create a personalised treatment plan to help you get back to doing what you love.
Treatment may include:
β’ Hands-on osteopathic treatment
β’ Individualised stretching and strengthening exercises
β’ Load management and activity advice
β’ Footwear recommendations
β’ Dry needling (where clinically appropriate)
β’ Shockwave therapy for suitable persistent cases
What can you do at home?
β’ Wear supportive footwear and avoid walking barefoot on hard floors.
β’ Stretch your calves and the sole of your foot regularly.
β’ Strengthen your foot and calf muscles.
β’ Apply ice after activities if your heel becomes sore.
β’ Gradually return to activity rather than pushing through pain.
The earlier plantar heel pain is managed, the easier it is to get back to walking, exercising and enjoying everyday life.
If heel pain has been bothering you, we'd love to help.

New Training Update β Exploring Visceral Fascia at YRO πΏ
At Yarra Ranges Osteopathy, we're committed to ongoing professional development so we can continue providing the highest standard of care.
Dr Indigo Clyde (osteopath) has recently completed the Exploring Visceral Fascia professional development course with Advanced Pain Management Osteopath Liz Howard.
This course explored how the connective tissue surrounding our internal organs works together with the muscles, joints and nervous system. Dr Indigo Clyde (osteopath) is now even better equipped to assess the potential role these tissues may play in pain, stiffness and movement restrictions and to incorporate appropriate hands-on treatment, movement strategies and education into individualised care where clinically appropriate.
The course also explored how these treatment approaches may be incorporated into an osteopathic management plan for some patients during recovery following surgery or illness, where appropriate. As always, treatment is tailored to each individual following a thorough assessment and is provided as part of a broader, patient-centred approach to care.
If you're experiencing ongoing pain or movement restrictions and would like to discuss whether osteopathy may be appropriate for you, we'd love to help.

Do You Wake Up with Numbness or Tingling in Your Hand? π€
It could be carpal tunnel syndrome.
Carpal tunnel syndrome occurs when the median nerve becomes compressed as it passes through the wrist. It can affect your sleep, grip strength and everyday activities.
Common symptoms include:
βοΈ Numbness or tingling in the thumb, index, middle and part of the ring finger
βοΈ Pain or burning in the hand or wrist
βοΈ Symptoms that are worse at night or first thing in the morning
βοΈ Weakness or difficulty gripping objects
βοΈ Dropping items more frequently
Simple exercises such as median nerve glides, wrist flexor stretches and tendon gliding exercises may help improve mobility and reduce symptoms when prescribed appropriately.
At Yarra Ranges Osteopathy, we'll assess whether your symptoms are coming from the wrist or whether another area, such as the neck, shoulder or forearm, may be contributing.
Treatment may include:
πΏ Hands-on treatment
πΏ Neural mobilisation (nerve glides)
πΏ Exercise prescription
πΏ Ergonomic and activity advice
πΏ Strengthening and rehabilitation
If you've been experiencing numbness, tingling or hand pain, don't ignore it, early assessment can make a real difference.

What Is Osteopathy and How Can It Help You? πΏ
Have you ever wondered what an osteopath actually does?
Osteopathy is a hands-on approach to healthcare that focuses on how your muscles, joints, nerves and connective tissues work together. Rather than simply treating the area where you feel pain, we aim to identify and address the underlying factors contributing to your symptoms.
Osteopathy may be able to help with:
β’ Back and neck pain
β’ Headaches and migraines
β’ Shoulder, elbow and wrist pain
β’ Hip, knee and ankle pain
β’ Sports injuries
β’ Arthritis and joint stiffness
β’ Sciatica and nerve pain
β’ Pregnancy-related aches and pains
β’ Jaw pain (TMJ dysfunction)
Treatment is tailored to each individual and may include hands-on techniques, exercise prescription, rehabilitation, education and advice to help you move and feel your best.
Whether you're recovering from an injury, managing ongoing pain, or looking to improve your movement, our team is here to help.

Headaches β How We Can Help π€―
Do you experience regular headaches?
Headaches are a common presentation we see in clinic, and they can have a range of contributing factors β including neck tension, posture, stress and even jaw clenching (bruxism).
They can present as:
β’ Tight, band-like pressure around the head
β’ Pain starting from the neck or base of the skull
β’ Headaches associated with screen use or poor posture
β’ Jaw tension or clicking alongside headaches
β’ Recurring or persistent headaches
Rather than just treating the symptoms, we focus on identifying and addressing the underlying contributors. This may include hands-on treatment, movement and posture advice and strategies to reduce muscle tension and nervous system sensitivity.
If youβve been dealing with headaches, it may be worth getting them assessed.
