A meta-analysis published in African Health Sciences combined 4 studies involving 415 children—254 with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and 161 controls from Egypt, Italy, the United States, and Macedonia. Across the studies, Candida albicans was detected in 117 of 254 children with autism (46.1%), compared with 14 of 161 controls (8.7%).
