NEW 2027 Game Programming & Australian STEM Video Game Challenge (Initial stage)

Does your child enjoy gaming and want to learn how to create their **own real video game**?

CodeKids Perth is launching our **2027 Game Programming & Australian STEM Video Game Challenge Program**, where students will learn game development using **Godot** and work towards creating an original game for a national STEM competition.

This CodeKids program is designed for students in **Years 5–12** who already have some Python experience and are ready to move into game programming and larger creative projects.

🎯 **A 4-Term Game Development Pathway**

The full program is divided into two stages:

✅ **Stage 1 – Initial Stage: 1 Term**

Students learn the foundations of the **Godot game engine**, including:

🎮 Game development fundamentals
💻 Python-like programming using GDScript
🕹️ Player movement and controls
⚙️ Game objects, scenes and interactions
🧠 Game logic and programming concepts
🎨 Building and testing playable game projects

🚀 **Stage 2 – Development Stage: 3 Terms**

Students then apply their skills to design and develop their **own original video game**.

With guidance from CodeKids mentor, students will work through the full development process:

💡 Game idea and concept
📝 Planning and game design
💻 Programming and development
🎨 Graphics and gameplay
🧪 Testing and debugging
🔧 Refining and improving the final game
🏆 Preparing a completed project for the Australian STEM Video Game Challenge

By the end of the full program, students will have taken a game from **idea → design → development → finished product**.

Students will also gain experience using **Godot**, an increasingly popular game engine combining Python-like programming with powerful professional game-development tools.

NEW 2027 ALGORITHMIC PROGRAMMING & AUSTRALIAN INFORMATICS OLYMPIAD (AIO)

CodeKids Perth is launching our 2027 Algorithmic Programming & Australian Informatics Olympiad (AIO) Competition Program, designed for students aged 12–18 who want to move beyond simply writing code and develop advanced algorithmic thinking and problem-solving skills.

🧠 Why Algorithmic Programming?

Learning programming syntax is only the beginning. Strong programmers need to understand how to break down complex problems, design efficient solutions and create correct algorithms.

These skills are fundamental to:
✅ Advanced computer science
✅ Competitive programming

✅ Future careers in technology

🏆 Australian Informatics Olympiad (AIO)

Students will also have the opportunity to prepare for the Australian Informatics Olympiad, one of Australia’s national programming competitions.

Participation in the AIO competition is optional — students are welcome to join the course simply to develop their algorithmic programming and problem-solving skills without the pressure of competition.

✅ Prerequisite:
Students should have basic fluency with Python syntax. Students who have completed beginner-level Python or above are welcome to enrol.

Our CodeKids Weekend Classes at Perth Modern School are back, and students are creating their very own 2D Soccer Game using Python Arcade!

This exciting project teaches students how to:
