UWA currently places profits before the good of the planet and its people

Choosing profits over principles leads to obvious conflicts of interest
UWA apparently esteems both ties to fossil fuel industry and “sustainability” and Indigenous culture
This is most clear in EZone and the Oceans Institute, BHP and Woodside Energy invested millions in EZone.

        This is an attempt at greenwashing. How can you ‘lead on issues of sustainability’ while continuing to support oil and gas extraction in projects like the Chevron Gorgon LNG Project, Australia’s biggest polluter, on Barrow Island, a nature reserve?

Woodside Energy, BHP, Chevron, Rio Tinto and South32 are some of the biggest climate polluters in the world, and UWA has ties to all of them. UWA’s pride in these “industry connections” is a disgrace. UWA continues to support these companies through research, greenwashing, and investment. For the future of our planet and its people, UWA must divest and take positive climate action!

The referendum results show that YES the student body collectively want UWA to divest from these fossil fuel companies. But a profit-orientated management will never consider divestment without student and staff fightback. Join student activists confronting management at the Protest on October 12 at 1pm on Oak Lawn!

The protest on the 12th October is the next step to take after voting YES in the Referendum.Climate Action Network/Socialist Alternative UWA /Fossil Free UWA organised climate action challenges UWA management’s ties with the fossil fuel industry to fight for a fossil fuel free, sustainable UWA.

The referendum results have clarified beyond a doubt what the UWA student body wants done about UWA’s connections to fossil fuels, divestment! This is a crucial first step in UWA student’s and activist’s fight against the fossil fuel pollution of our planet and profit driven universities that allow it. Bring the fight to management on October 12 at 1pm on Oak Lawn.

Today is the last day to vote before the public holiday! Make sure to come down to Reid or oak lawn to vote yes to divest in the student referendum .
