If you need a moment to gather your thoughts during an interview, it's perfectly okay to ask the hiring manager to repeat the question. Have you used this approach in an interview? Share your experience in the comments.

Behavioural interview questions often have several parts. Hearing the question again can help you ensure you're addressing each element clearly and completely.

You may also find it helpful to jot down a few key words as the question is asked. This can help you structure your response, stay on track, and avoid missing important details. Using the S.T.A.R. technique (Situation, Task, Action and Result) can help you respond in a logical concise manner.

Remember, taking a moment to think is not a sign of weakness. A considered answer is often stronger than a rushed one.

We're at the ADF Transition Seminar in Albury today, speaking with veterans and current serving ADF members about transitioning to civilian employment within the NSW Government.

It's always a pleasure to connect with those considering the transition from military to civilian careers, share insights into the opportunities available across government, and highlight the resources that can help them achieve success in their next chapter.
