Go Beyond Gas
Working together for action on climate!
Billionaire mining baron Gina Rinehart wants to build a massive gas plant in WA's Mid West.
You'd think that's exactly the kind of project our Environmental Protection Authority would want to look at closely.
Instead, the EPA has decided not to assess Rinehart's $850 million Belisima gas project.
229 people made submissions on this project. 227 of them called for it to be assessed. The EPA ignored them.
This project threatens endangered Carnaby's Black Cockatoos, WA groundwater, and would pump 109 million tonnes of climate pollution into the atmosphere over its lifetime. And there's no longer any way for the public to challenge this decision — WA's government stripped away appeal rights on EPA assessment calls back in 2024.
This isn't an isolated failure. It's what happens when environment laws are gutted and billionaires' interests come before community and climate.
WA needs an EPA that actually protects our environment — and laws strong enough to hold it to account.

Rhys Lopez - pictured in slide 3 with CCWA's Victoria Pavy - is the former head brewer at Otherside Brewery and the founder of Evil Mega Corp.
His new blood orange hazy IPA DIRTY GAS GUZZLER shines a light on how big gas corporations rip off communities and destroy pristine environments.
Rhys says:
"The Australian beer industry is losing fantastic breweries and people are losing jobs because of bankruptcies caused in part by the inability to meet tax obligations. Meanwhile, countries like Japan make money from our resources because we give it away for free.
“The beer excise is paid for by the small percentage of Australians who are beer drinkers, and they’re paying more than these giant gas companies are paying in PRRT for all the gas they’re exporting to the rest of the world. That’s insane.”
Rhys will be launching the DIRTY GAS GUZZLER at our event in Maylands this Wednesday 10 June — The Pub Test on Big Gas.
DIRTY GAS GUZZLER will be on tap, and part proceeds from every glass sold will go to CCWA.
The event will also include a pub quiz, panel discussion and music.

New analysis from investigative media outlet has confirmed that a functioning domestic gas reservation policy would easily meet the state’s energy needs without drilling the Browse gas project at Scott Reef.
More than 90% of WA's gas is exported overseas, mostly royalty-free.
If Premier Roger Cook simply enforced his own domestic gas reservation policy, it would supply more gas to the market than Woodside’s proposed Browse gas export project.
Roger Cook has a choice to make; does he force big gas exporters to fulfil their existing obligations to Western Australians, or does he wreck WA nature so multinational companies like Woodside can make more profits?

Woodside commissioned a report proving WA is falling behind on climate — then used it to justify building more fossil fuels 🤯
That's a cop-out — not a plan.
Woodside's own research points to the real solution: a rapid renewable transition.
Transitioning away from fossil gas would deliver cheaper and more secure energy for Western Australians.
Instead, Woodside wants to push ahead with Browse — a massive new gas export project that would lock in decades more emissions.
WA is already the only state with rising emissions and no legislated reduction targets. The last thing we need is Woodside learning all the wrong lessons from its own report.
BIG GAS IS TAKING THE P**S
At the pub in Freo, we got together with our mates from the for a ripper yarn about how the gas industry is taking advantage of Australians and destroying the places we love.
Now, its time for and to introduce a 25% tax on gas exports. Because we've been rorted for way too long.
Call your MP and tell them to tax the gas at last.
Australians have been ripped off by gas corporations for decades.
The international gas lobby has worked hard to make sure Australian laws stay written in their favour — at the cost of our communities and our climate.
This budget, Albo has the chance to change that. A 25% tax on gas exports is the bare minimum — and a clear majority of Australians across the political spectrum agree.
Thanks to and InfluenceMap for the research used in this video.
Volunteers from Conservation Council of WA (CCWA) have been doorknocking in Maylands to find out what the community really thinks about the gas industry — and the results are clear: 74% of residents oppose Woodside's proposed Browse gas project at Scott Reef.
Only 1 in 5 think gas multinationals are paying their fair share. Meanwhile, families are feeling the squeeze.
Big Gas has got away with ripping us off and destroying our environment for too long — but the tide is turning.
