Bolt it back for Reef

The affixing of furniture to the wall and other safety modifications have now passed both houses of parliament, and will come into effect very soon.

Once the changes come into force, it will mean that you will be able to anchor furniture to the walls of a home without the consent of your landlord, unless the anchor would cause permanent damage to the property - an example may be needing to screw into a brick wall.

In that case, you will need to seek permission from the landlord, but that permission cannot be unreasonably refused.

At the end of the tenancy, the property must be restored to its original state, unless the landlord agrees otherwise.

A landlord said no, and a boy died: a tragedy transforming rental laws A grieving family's fight from shattered hearts to safer homes.

I would like to announce that Tasmania has finally passed legislation in both lower and upper houses, to ensure rights to tenants to secure furniture!! 👏 👏

Today is Reefs 12th birthday; but it is also the 11th birthday not celebrated with Reef.

Reef should be going into high school and playing with friends, playing sports and doing all the things 12yr old boys do.

Instead, we continue sharing the message that securing furniture to the wall, could be the difference between life and death. The difference between 12 happy birthdays, or 12 hollow birthdays.

10 years on from his death, I still come across stories of children who have been injured by falling furniture. It’s simply not ok.

Share the message, educate your friends and family. Bolt it back for Reef, but also for your own children.

The ACCC worked with state and territory consumer protection agencies to examine around 3,000 furniture products at more than 160 businesses.

The sweep checked for toppling furniture safety warnings at point of sale, on products, and in instructions. More than half of businesses were non-compliant in relation to all products examined.

October 13th was 10 years since Reefs passing. We’ve learnt alot, greived alot, and shared alot in that time.

Tonight, we light a candle for October's wave of light. In memory of lives lost too soon. We remember them.
We remember the babies that never got to be held.
And the babies who were held, but not for long enough.
We remember the babies born sleeping and the babies who never woke from their sleep.
We remember the children who lost their lives in tragic accidents.

Tonight, light a candle and remember them with us.

Thankyou Fantastic Furniture

put together this great infographic. Ensure you anchor all of your furniture with drawers, doors, and shelves, and your TVs to the wall to prevent tip-over injuries. Even new dressers need to be anchored!
